[PHI - RB Jordan Howard should see more looks](#19) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [WAS - RB Derrius Guice injury update](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins RB [Derrius Guice]( (knee) is dealing with a meniscus injury and hopes to miss only a few weeks, according to a source. Guice is still waiting for an official diagnosis. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This is not for the knee that knocked him out all of last year. Guice has natural talent as a runner but he's banged up quite a bit. We'll see Adrian Peterson as the starter for Washington while Guice is down. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [SF - RB Tevin Coleman has high ankle sprain](=) Source: NFL.com Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers RB [Tevin Coleman]( (ankle) has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and will miss some time, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Coleman is considered week-to-week and will not be placed on the Reserve/Injured list. We all know that high ankle sprains can linger if not given enough time to heal, and that might take a few weeks. We'll see Matt Breida as the lead back with Raheem Mostert as his primary backup while Coleman is out. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [CLE - QB Baker Mayfield unlikely to miss time]() Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns QB [Baker Mayfield]( (wrist) should not miss any practice time after the X-rays on his wrist were negative, according to head coach Freddie Kitchens. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's good news for the Browns. Now, they need to protect him better and start playing up to the hype that surrounding this team before the Titans curb-stomped them on Sunday. Mayfield was under duress for most of that game, and the Browns O-line was dominated by the Titans up front. That needs to change in a hurry if it can. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [LAR - RB Todd Gurley logs 50-plus snaps in opener](=) Source: USA TODAY Sports - Mike Jones Los Angeles Rams RB [Todd Gurley]( (knee) was on the field for 54 of the team's 76 offensive snaps in Week 1 against Carolina Panthers. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gurley played a lot of snaps but he was splitting touches with Malcolm Brown against the Panthers. While Gurley had 15 touches, Brown had 11 on Sunday. This could be an approximation of the split going forward and if so, Fantasy GMs need to adjust their projections and expectations accordingly. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster expected to be fine](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Pittsburgh Steelers WR [JuJu Smith-Schuster]( (toe) is expected to be 'fine' after an X-ray on his injured toe came back negative Monday, Sept. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith-Schuster left the blowout loss against the Patriots late and Steelers fans were dismayed (for multiple reasons). It sounds like this injury is minor, so we'll be watching his practice status during the week. Check on Friday to see if he is ready to go for Week 2. Until then, Smith-Schuster is likely to be limited. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [DAL - Dallas nearing deal with QB Dak Prescott?]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams Dallas Cowboys QB [Dak Prescott]( is reportedly very close to agreeing to terms on a contract extension, as team owner Jerry Jones believes something will get done 'on an imminent basis.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Cowboys have taken care of most of their stars but they still have to work out new contracts with Prescott and WR Amari Cooper. Prescott can play at a high level, just like he did in Week 1, and the team needs to lock down their franchise quarterback. The sooner, the better and it sounds like we are close to seeing Prescott being one of the highest paid in the league. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NE - WR Antonio Brown has incentive to toe the line]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter New England Patriots WR [Antonio Brown]('s one-year contract with the team includes a fully guaranteed $20 million option for 2020, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Patriots aren't going to mess around if Brown is a malcontent in their building. They looked unstoppable Sunday night against the Steelers and will be even better if Brown is locked in. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [JAX - QB Nick Foles headed for IR](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Jacksonville Jaguars QB [Nick Foles]( (shoulder) underwent surgery on his broken clavicle Monday, Sept. 9, and will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a designation to return later in the day, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Just bad news for the Jaguars as they lost Foles early in their opener against the Chiefs. They'll turn to rookie Gardner Mishew as their starter while Foles is out for half the season. Minshew did not look uncomfortable when he was thrust into the game against the Chiefs on Sunday. He's smart and capable of working passes at all three levels. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [WAS - TE Jordan Reed on track for Week 2?]() Source: ESPN.com - John Keim Washington Redskins TE [Jordan Reed]( (concussion) missed Week 1 because of a concussion, but head coach Jay Gruden said he is very optimistic about Reed's status for Week 2. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Vernon Davis was more than fine with Reed out, and he'll continue to be the top tight end if Reed is not quite ready. When Reed returns, Washington may implement some sort of TEBC. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [CAR - No practice for TE Greg Olsen]() Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Carolina Panthers TE [Greg Olsen]( (back) did not participate in the team's walkthrough Monday, Sept. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It sounds like just a bit of rest of the veteran. Olsen had nine targets in the season opener against the Rams and showed no signs of slowing down. The Panthers are at home to face the Buccaneers on Thursday night in Week 2. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [TB - Ronald Jones takes part in practice]() Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones (toe) fully participated in practice Monday, Sept. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones was the best back for the Bucs in Week 1. The team travels to play the Panthers in Week 2 on Thursday night. Jones will have some deep flex appeal with his current role. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [PIT - Devlin Hodges expected to return]( Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac Free-agent QB Devlin Hodges is expected to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the near future, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hodges was an undrafted free agent out of Samford in 2019. The Steelers picked him up as a college free agent and he stayed with the team throughout training camp and the preseason. He's likely to return to give the Steelers a scout team quarterback. The need at the position is there since the Steelers traded Josh Dobbs to the Jaguars. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [NYG - WR Sterling Shepard in protocol]() Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan New York Giants WR [Sterling Shepard]( (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion and is going through the concussion protocol. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Just as most expected. In the protocol, Shepard will have to go through testing to make sure that he's ready to get back on the field. We'll see if he can participate in practice on Friday. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [NYJ - Le'Veon Bell moved around in Week 1]( Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell lined up at running back on 58 snaps in Week 1 but also received four snaps as a slot receiver and five snaps as an outside receiver. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It was a wise idea for the Jets to move Bell around. He's incredibly capable as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. However, Bell can run routes like a receiver and creates a mismatch no matter where he's lined up. Expect Bell to be moved around like this all season long. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [NYG - WR Sterling Shepard may have concussion]() Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz New York Giants WR [Sterling Shepard]( (head) 'may be dealing with a concussion,' according to head coach Pat Shurmur. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We'll know more about Shepard as the week of practice goes on. He's got to be placed in the concussion protocol if he's dealing with that injury. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [SEA - Another knee injury for TE Will Dissly]() Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks TE [Will Dissly]( (knee) reportedly suffered a setback with his surgically repaired knee in Week 1, according to comments made by head coach Pete Carroll. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Not good news for the second-year pro. His rookie season was cut short after just four games due to this knee injury. It sounds like he may have to miss more time. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [PIT - Joshua Dobbs sent to Jacksonville]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Joshua Dobbs]( was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round draft pick Monday, Sept. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Steelers have the luxury of trading away a backup quarterback because they have Mason Rudolph on the bench. Rudolph is seen as the heir apparent to Ben Roethlisberger and now is the clear-cut No. 2 quarterback for the team going forward. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [JAX - Jacksonville acquires Joshua Dobbs]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Joshua Dobbs]( was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round draft pick Monday, Sept. 9. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Jaguars needed help with Nick Foles (collarbone) sidelined with injury. Dobbs is incredibly smart (majored in aerospace engineering in college), athletic enough to slide in the pocket and generally accurate on short-to-intermediate routes. He'll serve as the backup to rookie Gardner Minshew. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [PHI - RB Jordan Howard should see more looks]() Source: NJ.com - Mike Kaye Philadelphia Eagles RB [Jordan Howard]( should see more looks in short-yardage situations and in the red zone moving forward. The Eagles used RBs [Miles Sanders]( and [Darren Sproles]( there in Week 1, and it didn't end well. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Howard should be used more than he was in Week 1. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry against Washington on Sunday, but Howard only got six carries. We'll see if they can start implementing the power back more to grind down an opponent.
