[NYJ - CB Trumaine Johnson not a lock for opener](#16) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [CAR - QB Cam Newton has mid-foot sprain](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers QB [Cam Newton]( (foot) was diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain, and the team is cautiously optimistic about his status for Week 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Newton will face Aaron Donald Week 1 so the team will need to be careful. He should drop on boards to about QB10 with the tightly packed group from 4-10 at the position. There's no need to take on injury risk with similar high ceiling quarterbacks on the board around Newton. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [WAS - TE Jordan Reed in concussion protocol](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Washington Redskins TE [Jordan Reed]( (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol after sustaining the injury in a preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reed has a long concussion history so this is terrible news. The team has Jeremy Sprinkle and Vernon Davis, but this should take him off of our late round tight end target list and could increase the target share for Trey Quinn. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [GB - Equanimeous St. Brown has high-ankle sprain](=) Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR [Equanimeous St. Brown]( (ankle) is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks with a high-ankle sprain. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] St. Brown was already on the roster bubble. Jake Kumerow is the bench receiver to target here if you want to stash away a Packer. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [SEA - Ziggy Ansah may return next week]() Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks DE Ziggy Ansah (groin) hopefully will be able to return to practice next week, according to head coach Pete Carroll. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ansah is the best edge rusher on the roster and he could be ready before first round pick LJ Collier, who should do more in practice next week after suffering an ankle/foot injury in camp. He will face a weak Bengals line in Week 1 if he can healthy in time. If not, Andy Dalton's job gets easier in a hostile road environment. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [PIT - CB Joe Haden likely to sit out Sunday]( Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Joe Rutter Pittsburgh Steelers CB Joe Haden (ankle) does not expect to play in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 25, but believes he will be ready for Week 1. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Josh Gordon is ready to play Week 1, the Steelers will need Haden's experience and skill. We will be watching the Week 1 practice and injury reports. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [TB - Ronald Jones still has work to do](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones (knee) 'has had some busts in blitz pickup, and he's still working on his route running,' according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones is only going to be a small contributor to the backfield at this point, although he is at least over his knee issue from the previous preseason game. The Tampa backfield does not look promising for fantasy, but Peyton Barber is the most valuable member at this point. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [PIT - WR Diontae Johnson stuck in a holding pattern]( Source: DKPittsburghSports.com - Dale Lolley Pittsburgh Steelers WR Diontae Johnson (undisclosed) has been held out of practice all week due to an undisclosed injury, according to Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson has looked promising in camp but snaps will be hard to come by early. He could be a mid-season pickup if Donte Moncrief or James Washington miss any time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [SEA - WR David Moore seeking second opinion]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Seattle Seahawks WR [David Moore]( (shoulder) is in the process of getting a second opinion on his shoulder injury that is not expected to require surgery but cause him to miss at least the first game of the regular season, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jaron Brown will start Week 1 against the Bengals unless DK Metcalf has a very speedy recovery from knee surgery. UDFAs John Ursua and Jazz Ferguson could also get playing time early in the season with fourth-round pick Gary Jennings on the roster bubble. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [IND - QB Jacoby Brissett to sit out game]( Source: The Athletic - Zak Keefer Indianapolis Colts QB [Jacoby Brissett]( will be held out of the team's Saturday, Aug. 24, preseason game against the Chicago Bears. The Colts are holding out a majority of their starters, and Brissett is the starting quarterback until [Andrew Luck]( (ankle) returns to practice. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This should make you very uncertain about Luck Week 1 and maybe beyond. Draft all Colts with caution at this point, and target Brissett late in 2QB/Superflex leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [BAL - WR Marquise Brown buoyed by debut](=) Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jonas Shaffer Baltimore Ravens Marquise Brown (foot) made his pro debut Thursday, Aug. 22, in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, catching all three of his targets for 17 yards, losing four yards o an end-around and catching a two-point conversion pass that was later called back. 'Man, it felt amazing,' he said. 'It's the best day so far. Just being out here -- from pregame to being in the game and being with the team -- it was just a lot of fun.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Brown is still not ready to make big contributions yet, leaving the door open for fellow rookie Miles Boykin to make a big early impact. We'll keep Brown on our waiver wire watch list. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [MIA - QB Josh Rosen plays well](=) Source: ESPN.com - Cameron Wolfe Miami Dolphins QB [Josh Rosen]( completed 5 of 7 passes for 59 yards and ran four times for 23 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rosen is making a push to start Week 1 vs. Baltimore, but behind this offensive line, his 2019 might look a lot like his 2018. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [GB - WR Trevor Davis has big night]( Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky Green Bay Packers WR [Trevor Davis]( caught five passes for 78 yards and a touchdown against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday, Aug. 22. He also accounted for an 18-yard run as he pushes for one of the remaining receiver spots on the 53-man roster. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Davis should add speed to the receiver group and could be a name to remember if multiple injuries strike the Packers wide receiver depth chart. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [GB - Rashan Gary avoids injury?]( Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers DL Rashan Gary (undisclosed) is 'fine and doing well,' according to his agent. Gary was carted off the field during the team's game on Thursday, Aug. 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gary is only expected to be a part-time contributor and he'll be playing with an injured shoulder. It's good news that he's ok and we'll see if he can be ready to play Week 1 vs. Chicago. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [WAS - RB Derrius Guice busy Thursday]() Source: ESPN.com Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice rushed 11 times for 44 yards and caught one pass for four yards in a 19-7 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Guice looked great and should be the best thing about an offense that will likely be the worst in the NFC. He's in a three man committee, but his ADP has fallen enough to make him at least worth considering. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [NYG - Efficient night for QB Daniel Jones]() Source: ESPN.com New York Giants QB Daniel Jones completed nine of his 11 pass attempts for 141 yards in a 25-23 preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Aug. 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Jones impressive preseason continues. We'll see him sooner than later unless Eli Manning has found the fountain of youth but it might be a good thing for the offense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [NYJ - CB Trumaine Johnson not a lock for opener]( Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini New York Jets CB Trumaine Johnson (hamstring) has only been able to stretch during practice, and his status for Week 1 is 'very much in doubt,' according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That is great news for John Brown and Josh Allen in Week 1. With the Browns and Patriots up in Weeks 2 and 3, Johnson needs to heal quickly to avoid a mismatch when the Jets face Odell Beckham and maybe Josh Gordon. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks. Thanks for reading and thanks for sharing some of your season with us.
