[TB - DE Jason Pierre-Paul timeline](#23) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 1. [NYG - WR Sterling Shepard has fractured thumb]() Source: Giants.com New York Giants WR [Sterling Shepard]( (thumb) suffered a fractured thumb during practice Thursday, July 25, and will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Bad news for the Giants here. Shepard is set to be their lead receiver this year...but we don't know for who just yet. Eli Manning is competing with Daniel Jones for the top spot at the quarterback position. This WR corps is thin behind Shepard and Golden Tate. While Shepard is out, we'll see if guys like Corey Coleman or Cody Latimer can make an impression. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NO - WR Michael Thomas yet to report]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter New Orleans Saints WR [Michael Thomas]( is seeking a new contract and has not reported to the team's training facility as of Thursday, July 25. The Saints begin training-camp practices on Friday, July 26. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Thomas deserves to be paid at the top of the market. The Saints aren't in a great spot cap wise, but they can make this work. Don't move Thomas down unless this extends well into August. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [MIA - RB Kalen Ballage on field with starters](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins RB [Kalen Ballage]( received snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ballage is getting first-team work over Kenyan Drake. We'll see this competition work out in training camp. Ballage is a big back and a swift runner, but power is not really his game. He's a better receiver than he showed last year as a rookie and could at least be part of a RBBC with Drake if he doesn't win the top spot for the Dolphins this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [ATL - WR Calvin Ridley tweaks hamstring Thursday](=) Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Will McFadden Atlanta Falcons WR [Calvin Ridley]( (hamstring) was seen walking with a noticeable limp after he finished running around near the end of practice Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Head coach Dan Quinn said afterward Ridley had a tight hamstring, but that he expected the second-year receiver in time for the next four-day block of practices that begins Saturday, July 27. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [GB - WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling earns praise]( Source: NFL Network Green Bay Packers WR [Marquez Valdes-Scantling]( has 'really jumped out' since spring practices, according to QB [Aaron Rodgers](.'There's a big difference between a guy who can time fast and play fast. And playing fast is where the confidence comes,' Rodgers told [James Jones]( of NFL Network. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This has been a consistent drumbeat all offseason long. We're excited to see who emerges at the WR position behind Davante Adams this year. This battle between guys like Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison and Jake Kumerow will play itself out in training camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [WAS - RB Derrius Guice not limited in practice](=) Source: Redskins.com Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice told reporters he was 'a full participant day one' on Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Guice's knee injury cost him all of his rookie season. He's had more than a few setbacks since surgery last year but seems to be good to go now. We'll see if Guice can push Adrian Peterson for the top spot in Washington's backfield. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [NYG - QB Daniel Jones ahead of the curve]() Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has 'exceeded expectations' so far and has impressed with his smarts, throwing ability and mobility, head coach Pat Shurmur said Thursday, July 25. 'We really haven't seen anything he can't do in terms of playing quarterback,' Shurmur added. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With every positive Jones blurb, it raises the question even more of when he'll start. It won't be Week 1 out of deference to Eli Manning, but it might not be that far into the season if Manning's game continues to decline. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [DET - No set limits for RB Kerryon Johnson](=) Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett Detroit Lions RB [Kerryon Johnson]( has the potential to be the workhorse in 2019, but after missing six games due to a knee injury in 2018, and his head coach's belief in a by-committee approach, he might have his workload managed early on. 'Nobody's setting a number, a ceiling, a floor or anything of who's going to get what touches and all that,' running backs coach Kyle Caskey said Wednesday, July 24. 'It's all about getting the running game going and then setting up all the other stuff for us. But whoever the best running back is that comes out of this thing will be getting the touches, whoever's hot will be getting the touches.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson is the kind of runner that gets stronger as the game goes on, and he has the skillset to never leave the field. If Theo Riddick doesn't make the team, Johnson has top 6-8 running back upside, and maybe even if Riddick does. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [BUF - RB Frank Gore ready to return]() Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia Buffalo Bills RB [Frank Gore]( (undisclosed) passed his physical and was removed from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Gore is a seasoned veteran and doesn't need every rep in training camp or the preseason. We'll see if he can win a large role in the backfield with LeSean McCoy. Rookie Devin Singletary is competing for a spot in the pecking order too. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [CLE - RB Duke Johnson to play key role?]( Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot Cleveland Browns RB [Duke Johnson]( is going to have a 'significant' role in the offense, according to head coach Freddie Kitchens. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Johnson could have a role as a pass-catching back behind Nick Chubb...until Kareem Hunt comes back from his 8-game suspension. We'll see if Johnson is traded away (like he wants) at some point in the near future. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [SEA - RB Chris Carson sees some action](=) Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson Seattle Seahawks RB [Chris Carson]( (knee) was sidelined for organized team activities and minicamp while recovering from a minor knee surgery, but he was spotted at practice and took the first handoff of 11-on-11 drills Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Carson is competing with Rashaad Penny to be the top back for the Seahawks this year. We'll see if this knee surgery puts Penny clearly in the lead by the time the start of the regular season gets here. Stay tuned. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [PHI - QB Carson Wentz has no restrictions]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Philadelphia Eagles QB [Carson Wentz]( won't face any practice restrictions in training camp, head coach Doug Pederson said Thursday, July 25. 'We're not going to hold back,' Pederson said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Wentz has the best array of weapons in his career and plays behind arguably the best offensive line in football. He could easily be a top three fantasy quarterback and he's going outside of the top five. There are a lot of potential hit at quarterback this year at almost every stage of the draft and Wentz is one of them. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [LAC - Russell Okung had pulmonary embolism](=) Source: Chargers Wire - Gavino Borquez Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Chargers OT Russell Okung (heart) is recovering from a pulmonary embolism caused by blood clots and will start training camp on the Active/Non-Football Illness list. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] He said he'll be back once the doctors clear him, but it's unclear when that will happen, and he will have to get back in football shape. Still, it's a sigh of relief for him that this has been detected. If you experience any kind of chest pains, be like Okung and get them checked out. It might have saved his life (and the Chargers season). [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [NE - WR Julian Edelman has broken thumb](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR [Julian Edelman]( (thumb) suffered a broken thumb playing catch three weeks ago. He's expected to recover in a few weeks, but he'll likely miss most of the preseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hopefully he'll play in the third preseason game to reassure us, but this is still minor and not as worrisome as a soft tissue injury. He's worth his ADP even carrying this injury into camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [HOU - WR Will Fuller takes part in practice]( Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson Houston Texans WR [Will Fuller]( (knee) participated in practice Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A good sign for the young receiver here. Nobody doubts his talent, but Fuller has been banged up quite a bit during his pro career. He made it through only seven games in 2018 and had surgery last October to repair his injured knee. Fuller is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [MIA - WR Albert Wilson limited Thursday](=) Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson Miami Dolphins WR [Albert Wilson]( (hip) was limited to individual drills during practice Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This hip injury impacted Wilson last year and the team is going to limit him to individual drills at this time just to be safe. Wilson said he is feeling better but would not say if he will play in any preseason games. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [BUF - WR Cole Beasley to be monitored](=) Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown Buffalo Bills WR [Cole Beasley]( (core) will participate in practices during training camp, but the team will keep an eye on him since he is coming back from a core muscle surgery, according to head coach Sean McDermott. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Bills revamped their WR corps this offseason and Beasley will be counted on to work the underneath routes for QB Josh Allen. Coming off a 65-catch season last year for the Cowboys, Bealsey should be projected for about 50 catches this year with the Bills. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [WAS - Shaun Wilson inks deal with Washington]() Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman Free-agent RB [Shaun Wilson]( (Buccaneers) signed an undisclosed contract with the Washington Redskins on Thursday, July 25. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Undrafted out of Duke in 2018, Wilson appeared in five games for the Buccaneers last year. He's a smaller (5'9" 185 pounds) runner and an explosive player with the rock in his hands. We'll see if he can stick in an unsettled Bucs backfield (again) this season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [SEA - TE Will Dissly back to work]() Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks TE [Will Dissly]( (leg) was spotted running routes at practice Thursday, July 25, roughly 10 months after tearing his patella tendon. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Dissly made an instant impact with a combined 10-6-147-2 receiving line in Seattle's first two games last year (most of that came against the Broncos), but his rookie season ended with a torn patella tendon in Week 4. We'll see if he can be healthy enough to win the top TE spot for the Seahawks in 2019. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [PHI - RB Miles Sanders gets in limited work]( Source: PhillyVoice.com - Jimmy Kempski Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) participated in certain portions of practice Thursday, July 25, and 'seems healed from the nagging hamstring injury that sidelined him for the entirety of spring practices,' according to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sanders is a change-of-pace back from Penn State who has exciting upside as a rookie in 2019...if healthy. We'll see how the backfield shapes up after Jordan Howard on the depth chart. Sanders is competing with guys like Corey Clement and Darren Sproles in camp. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [SF - WR Deebo Samuel gets his deal done](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport San Francisco 49ers second-round WR Deebo Samuel (South Carolina) agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the team Thursday, July 25. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Samuel is a bully with the ball. He's a run-after-the-catch specialist with the strength to rip away contested passes from smaller defenders. We'll see how the rookie works into the mix this year and certainly appreciate his stock in dynasty formats. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 22. [HOU - DE J.J. Watt participates in practice]() Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (knee) was removed from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 25, and took part in the team's first practice of training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That was quick. He might have to play without Jadeveon Clowney this year if the Texans can find a trade partner, but Watt is still a top five IDP defensive end and enough reason to draft the Texans fantasy defense. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 23. [TB - DE Jason Pierre-Paul timeline]( Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Jason Pierre-Paul (neck) could return in November, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The season could be lost by then. His absence will help the Bucs games skew towards shootouts, but it could be too much for the defense to overcome without some surprise pass rushers emerging.
