[LAC - LA Chargers not budging on RB Melvin Gordon?]() Source: Yahoo! Sports - Charles Robinson Los Angeles Chargers RB [Melvin Gordon]( isn't expected to receive an extension anytime soon, as the team has reportedly 'dug in' on its stance. Barring a change in his camp's expectations, Gordon's threat to potentially hold out will be put to the test, according to Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson via multiple sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Watch this one closely as we think it has the potential to get messy. Gordon will have to decide if he is willing to give the Chargers any more than the bare minimum to get his unrestricted free agent status next year - which could still be preempted by a franchise tag. He feels too risky for the first round right now. Justin Jackson and Austin Ekeler would form a committee to replace Gordon if he holds out into the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [NE - WR Julian Edelman has thumb injury]() Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter New England Patriots WR [Julian Edelman]( (thumb) is wearing a small brace over his left thumb, which is expected to sideline him for about three weeks. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This sounds like nothing, but we'll be watching to make sure that he's ready by the third preseason game. Edelman has a chance to lead the league in receptions this year, so this is an important situation to monitor. In the meantime, Braxton Berrios will have a chance to impress in Edelman's place during camp, and undrafted rookies Jakobi Meyers and Ryan Davis should also get more snaps in practice. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [NYG - QB Eli Manning not in QB competition]() Source: 1 No Source New York Giants QB [Eli Manning]( is not competing with rookie first-round QB Daniel Jones for the starting job during training camp, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This after a lot of buzz that Jones looked better than Manning - or at least more promising - in OTAs. Manning might be the starter Week 1, but it seems clear that he will sit if the season is lost, and it's possible that he declines enough to force the team's hand before that. This will still be a situation to watch this summer to presage in-season developments. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [IND - QB Andrew Luck a full-go for training camp]() Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero Indianapolis Colts QB [Andrew Luck]( was held out of spring practices with a minor calf injury, but he is 'good to go' for training camp, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] After a lot of drama around Luck's condition the last two summers, we're looking forward to a hopefully uneventful camp and preseason for him. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [SEA - DT Jarran Reed suspended six games]( Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith Seattle Seahawks DT Jarran Reed was suspended six games Monday, July 22, due to violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The suspension stems from an alleged 2017 incident in which Reed was accused of assaulting a woman. He was not arrested by police. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Reed is a key part of a Seahawks defense that will be looking for pass rush help after Frank Clark was traded. This is a blow to a unit that was already going through adjustments and it could lead to more high-scoring games early in the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [DEN - RB Phillip Lindsay might see more grabs](=) Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Denver Broncos RB [Phillip Lindsay]( might get more touches as a receiver out of the backfield, offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello hinted Sunday, July 21. He was seen splitting out wide and matching up against various linebackers during 11-on-11 drills. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Lindsay's value could grow this year if he is more involved in the passing game, although Royce Freeman's role as a runner could grow enough to offset that. His ADP is fair even though it doesn't quite give him full credit for an astoundingly successful rookie year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DEN - Steady progress for WR Emmanuel Sanders](=) Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla Denver Broncos WR [Emmanuel Sanders]( (Achilles) continues to participate in the early portions of practice with the team before leaving to work with trainers, head coach Vic Fangio said Sunday. July 21. 'It's a slow but sure process,' Fangio said. 'Everything is good so far. He's where we expected him to be and even a little bit more.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Sanders is at least doing well enough to convince the team that he'll be ready before Week 7 since they didn't keep him on the active PUP and Week 1 is still a potential target return. He should be the #1 receiver as long as he's healthy. The uncertainty around his status is more than baked into his ADP, and he is at least a big threat to keep Courtland Sutton from hitting his ceiling this year. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [ATL - Broken ankle for DT Michael Bennett](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Atlanta Falcons DT Michael Z. Bennett (ankle) suffered a broken ankle during practice Monday, July 22, and will be sidelined indefinitely, according to sources. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] A sixth-round pick of the Jaguars in the 2015 NFL draft, Bennett was picked up by the Falcons last October and appeared in a couple of games last season. Bennett is not eligible for the PUP list since this injury occurred in training camp. We might see the Falcons put him on Injured Reserve. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [TEN - Tennessee sends one to PUP, one to NFI](=) Source: PaulKuharsky.com - Paul Kuharsky Tennessee Titans TE [Jonnu Smith]( (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 22. The team also placed DL Jeffery Simmons on the Active/Non-Football Injury List. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Smith was going to be relegated back to the #2 tight end since Delanie Walker is back, although a return to full health would make the Titans already enhanced group of targets even more versatile. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [ATL - Atlanta to rotate RBs behind Devonta Freeman]( Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Will McFadden Atlanta Falcons RB [Devonta Freeman]( is the unquestioned starting running back, but the team may ultimately decide to use [Ito Smith](, [Brian Hill]( and Qadree Ollison to replace [Tevin Coleman](, who left for the San Francisco 49ers in free agency this spring.'It's a position that has good talent for us. And now to be talented as a group, it may be a combination of those roles and featuring what those guys can do best. ... That's deeper than we've been at that position for a while, and I'm looking forward to the unique stuff that the guys do have,' head coach Dan Quinn said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Freeman can't stay healthy, the team is likely to employ a committee to replace him, so there's no clear handcuff here. Ollison vs Hill is a good battle to watch, as the winner should get the bulk of early down work if Freeman goes down. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [CHI - CHI kicker up in the air]( Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Patrick Finley Chicago Bears PKs Eddy Pineiro and Elliott Fry will battle for the kicker spot, but neither is in the lead. The team plans to monitor other teams' kicking competitions for a potential option. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ryan Pace said "We're watching all the teams, all the competitive situations around the league. One of them will be kicker. We're just watching that progress as we go forward. We know right now where we stand, where some of those battles are occurring. We're watching those. And I'm sure there will be ones that will pop up that might surprise us", so expect that the Week 1 Bears kicker is someone not currently on the roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [DEN - TE Noah Fant's speed showing up]( Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason Denver Broncos TE Noah Fant caught a touchdown in the red zone and was able to create separation and 'rip off gains' of 20-plus yards on passes in the flat during practice Sunday, July 21, according to Andrew Mason of DenverBroncos.com. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fant could be relevant in fantasy leagues this year despite being a rookie. His chemistry with Joe Flacco is key and it sounds like it is already developing. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [DEN - WR Juwann Winfree making a name]( Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason Denver Broncos WR Juwann Winfree has made 'catch after catch' during training camp, according to Andrew Mason of DenverBroncos.com. 'I see him every day catching a lot of balls, having great routes,' CB Chris Harris Jr. said Sunday, July 21. 'He's stronger than a lot of people would think as a young receiver.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Winfree is a big receiver, so he might have trouble overtaking Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick on the depth chart, but he could also create enough buzz that the team can't sneak him through the practice squad. After hitting on Phillip Lindsay last year, Denver could have lightning strike twice with unheralded Colorado players making their team if Winfree keeps this up. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [CHI - S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix a PUP candidate]() Source: ChicagoBears.com Chicago Bears S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (knee) is 'likely' to be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, general manager Ryan Pace said Sunday, July 21. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Clinton-Dix should be back soon. His presence is important because he's replacing Adrian Amos in the defense and will need practice time to integrate into Chuck Pagano's scheme. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [DEN - WR Juwann Winfree not on field]() Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Denver Broncos WR Juwann Winfree (leg) did not participate in practice Monday, July 22, because of left leg soreness. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Winfree, a 2019 sixth-round pick out of the University of Colorado, has looked good so far in training camp. The Broncos have an inexperienced group of WRs behind Emmanuel Sanders. Courtland Sutton should be their No. 1 WR, Sanders as their No. 2 and the rest of the group (including Winfree) are vying for the pecking order behind those two. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [DEN - TE Jake Butt sits again]() Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis Denver Broncos TE [Jake Butt]( (knee) did not participate in practice Monday, July 22. The team hopes he will be able to practice Wednesday, July 24, after three days of rest. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Butt has talent but he is oft-injured and is coming back from the third knee injury of his football career dating back to high school. The Broncos have 2019 first-round pick Noah Fant and second-year pro Troy Fumagalli competing for the top pass-catching target at tight end. Butt, when healthy, is just trying to make the final roster. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [NE - WR Justin Hunter not an option yet](=) Source: The Athletic - Nick Underhill Free-agent WR [Justin Hunter]( (Steelers) is not expected to sign with the New England Patriots at this point even though he worked out for the team Monday, July 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Patriots are hurting at the position right now and could use a camp body. Both Julian Edelman and Demaryius Thoams are banged up entering camp, so we'll see if the Patriots go ahead and make a move at the position sometime soon. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [TEN - DT Jurrell Casey, PK Ryan Succop land on PUP]( Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt Tennessee Titans DL Jurrell Casey (knee) and PK Ryan Succop (undisclosed) were placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Kicker injuries can be tricky, so we'll watch if the Titans sign anyone to hedge against the possibility of Succop being unable to play Week 1. Casey is a key member of the defensive line who is still recovering from a December injury, so we'll keep tabs on his return. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [CLE - RB Orleans Darkwa getting a look from Cleveland]() Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan Free-agent RB [Orleans Darkwa]( (Giants) is working out for the Cleveland Browns on Monday, July 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Browns don't have a true between the tackles grinder to back up Nick Chubb on the roster. Darkwa could be that guy, although he doesn't have much overlap with Duke Johnson's skillset if any at all, so this probably doesn't reflect at all on the chances of Johnson being dealt before the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [NE - WR Justin Hunter works out for Pats](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Free-agent WR [Justin Hunter]( (Steelers) worked out Monday, July 22, for the New England Patriots, according to a source. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Hunter has size and speed, but has never put it together in the NFL. He can contribute on special teams to help his chances, but he is likely just being brought in as a potential camp body to take snaps while Julian Edelman is out. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [IND - Two Colts shut down](=) Source: Colts.com Indianapolis Colts WR Daurice Fountain (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury List, while DE Carroll Phillips (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 22. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Fountain is probably on the outside looking in for a roster spot after being a fifth round pick last year. He needs to get back on the field to have any chance of making the team. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- That'll do it for today, Folks.
