J --------------------------------------------------------------- Week 12 Upgrades, Downgrades, and Waiver Wire Wonders by Sigmund Bloom, exclusive to Footballguys.com --------------------------------------------------------------- The percentage next to a waiver wire gem indicates the percentage of a "blind bid" budget used in some leagues to award free agent pickups. Week 13 at Miami has some superflex/2QB potential. [][QB Drew Brees, NO]( - Brees and the Saints offense have moved ahead of the pack to outpace the entire league and Sean Payton is calling plays to pile on the points even after the game is decided. He might be the #1 quarterback for Week 12 because of the Atlanta matchup. [][QB Andy Dalton, CIN]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Dalton made the most of the opportunities he got in a tough road matchup in Week 11 at Baltimore. He could get AJ Green back earlier than expected and still represents a safe streamer for Week 12 and the playoffs. [][QB Sam Darnold, NYJ]( - (waiver wire: 1% in very deep/2QB/Superflex) - Darnold is out of the walking boot and could return for this week's matchup against the Patriots. [][QB Blaine Gabbert, TEN]( - (waiver wire: 1% in very deep/2QB/Superflex) - The Titans offense will go into a shell if Gabbert has to start, but he is still worth picking up in leagues where every starter is carried. [][QB Lamar Jackson, BAL]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Jackson was everything we expected as a runner, and everything the Ravens wanted to limit as a passer. He could get another start this week if Joe Flacco isn't ready, and the matchup is just as good. He's a high floor streamer posting a solid score this week despite participating in zero touchdowns. [][QB Eli Manning, NYG]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Manning was good against an easy matchup in Week 11, and only Ryan Fitzpatrick's struggles kept him from having a ceiling game. The Eagles secondary is in shambles, so Manning is streamable again this week. [][QB Baker Mayfield, CLE]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - The Browns offense looks like a lot better under Freddie Kitchens and they had a week off to get things in order going into a streamable matchup for Goff/Mahomes teams this week against the Bengals. Mayfield gets them again in Week 16. [][QB Josh McCown, NYJ]( - (waiver wire: 1% in very deep/2QB/Superflex) - It's unknown whether Sam Darnold will be ready for Week 12, but if he's not, McCown will get a start against the Patriots. [][QB Colt McCoy, WAS]( - (waiver wire: 1% in very deep/2QB/Superflex) - McCoy won't be any more exciting for fantasy than Alex Smith, but he's worth rostering in leagues where every starter is carried. Matchups against Philly and the Giants in Weeks 13 and 14 have a little promise. [][QB Nick Mullens, SF]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Mullens is a top streamer this week heading to Tampa, but faces tougher matchups the rest of the way with two matchups against Seattle plus Denver and Chicago on the schedule. [][QB Brock Osweiler, MIA]( - (waiver wire: 1% in very deep/2QB/Superflex) - It's possible Osweiler could get one more start vs. the Colts, and maybe more if Ryan Tannehill's shoulder injury doesn't respond well after the bye. [][QB Ben Roethlisberger, PIT]( - Roethlisberger was reliving last year's nightmare against the Jaguars and turned it into a happy ending in Jacksonville. He has a tough road matchup again this week, but showed that he is matchup and venue-proof heading down the stretch. [][QB Ryan Tannehill, MIA]( - (waiver wire: 1% in very deep/2QB/Superflex) - Tannehill might be ready to retake the reins at quarerback for the Dolphins, this week's practices will tell the story. He's only a bench option in superflex/2QB leagues with no obviously good matchups left. [][QB Jameis Winston, TB]( - (waiver wire: 20-40%) - Can Jameis Winston hold onto the starting job for a longer period the second time around this year? He's worth a start against the 49ers even with the risk of benching hanging over him after a strong second half performance against the Giants. --------------------------------------------------------------- Quarterback Downgrade [][QB Blake Bortles, JAX]( - The Jaguars defense is coming on and making it easier for the team to limit Bortles pass attempts. He's risky streamer, even in 2QB/Superflex leagues, regardless of matchup. [][QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, TB]( - Fitzmagic VII the sequel is over. He can be dropped outside of 2QB/Superflex leagues and won't be worth trusting even if Jameis Winston gets benched again. [][QB Joe Flacco, BAL]( - Flacco could return for an easy remaining schedule, but the nature of his injury will limit his upside and give more opening for the team to use Lamar Jackson. He's not worth carrying outside of 2QB/Superflex leagues. [][QB Marcus Mariota, TEN]( - Mariota appeared to aggravate his arm/elbow injury from earlier this year. Even if he can play vs. the Texans, it will be difficult to trust him as more than a desperation play from here on out unless he has a strong game on 2QB/Superflex benches. He can be dropped in typical leagues. [][QB Dak Prescott, DAL]( - Prescott failed to convert an easy matchup at Atlanta into fantasy success. The Cowboys have a great schedule left vs. the pass, but Prescott is probably only an emergency play unless he gets hot against the Eagles in Week 14. The Bucs matchup in Week 16 will be enticing for Superflex/2QB leagues. [][QB Matt Ryan, ATL]( - The Cowboys are a solid defense, and they reminded us that Ryan is not matchup proof or an elite fantasy quarterback despite his numbers to date this year. He has a matchup against the Saints this week that has looked good on paper, but not delivered the last two weeks. [][QB Alex Smith, WAS]( - Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury and is out for the year. [][QB Carson Wentz, PHI]( - Wentz was thoroughly frustrated by the Saints in Week 11. He has a better matchup this week against the Giants and the Rams in Week 15 looks fantasy friendly, but he's not an automatic QB1 after this result. --------------------------------------------------------------- Quarterback Holding steady [][QB Mitchell Trubisky, CHI]( - Trubisky was a fantasy dud against a good defense in Week 11. The good news is that he doesn't face another one until the Vikings come back on the schedule in Week 17. [][QB Deshaun Watson, HOU]( - Watson was thwarted at most every turn by the Washington defense and came up small in fantasy leagues in Week 11, but there's still hope for a strong finish with no top defenses left on the schedule and three straight home games up next. --------------------------------------------------------------- Running Back Upgrade [][RB Josh Adams, PHI]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Adams was the only good thing in the Eagles offense at New Orleans. He'll still share the backfield, but is worth a flex look or emergency RB2 play against the weak Giants run defense. [][RB Peyton Barber, TB]( - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Barber looked as strong as he has all season against the Giants and he has another good matchup against the 49ers this week. He has earned a flex start and can provide valuable volume-based depth for the fantasy playoffs. [][RB Giovani Bernard, CIN]( - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - Bernard has a combination of PPR bench depth and Joe Mixon injury handcuff value, although this offense isn't supporting a high numbers from the running back position with AJ Green on the sidelines. [][RB LeGarrette Blount, DET]( - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Blount could be the lead back against the Bears and perhaps longer if Kerryon Johnson's knee injury is a problem, although he'll just be depth with his poor performance to date this year. [][RB Alfred Blue, HOU]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Blue is a second-tier playoff bench handcuff and could lose that status to D'Onta Foreman, but Lamar Miller tends to wear down and the Texans are committed to the run so this is a situation worth watching. [][RB Rex Burkhead, NE]( - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Burkhead could be activated in Week 13 and he's worth a deep league stash because of his skillset and situation. [][RB Chris Carson, SEA]( - (waiver wire: 20-40%) - Carson overcame an early fumble and looked strong, energetic, and healthy against the Packers. Rashaad Penny is coming on, but tweaked his ankle, so Carson should be at least flexworthy against the Panthers. [][RB Gus Edwards, BAL]( - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Edwards power running took over the Ravens backfield and fit with Lamar Jackson like a lock and key. He should remain the lead back against the Raiders and merit a boom/bust RB2 start this week. [][RB Austin Ekeler, LAC]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Ekeler still looks explosive at times and provides Melvin Gordon injury upside along with emergency flex/RB2 value. [][RB Leonard Fournette, JAX]( - The Jaguars aren't backing away from using Fournette and he has the fresh legs to take as much work as they can give him. He'll remain a strong RB2 at worst against the Bills this week. [][RB Royce Freeman, DEN]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Freeman got yet another short score and appears to be healthy for a good playoff schedule. He has emergency depth and Phillip Lindsay injury upside. [][RB Carlos Hyde, JAX]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Hyde is set up as the hammer behind the hammer in Jacksonville. With their defense playing better and Leonard Fournette's injury history, he's a third-tier injury handcuff for the stretch run. [][RB Mark Ingram, NO]( - The Saints offense is operating at an all-time historic level and Ingram plays a central role. He's an RB1 going forward, and must start against the Falcons on Thanksgiving. [][RB Aaron Jones, GB]( - Jones was used like a true lead back, especially in the passing game. He showed some route running ability on his touchdown catch and cemented his RB1 status. [][RB Phillip Lindsay, DEN]( - Lindsay is now getting more involved in the red zone and continues to add value to his profile. He's an upside RB2 with a favorable playoff schedule. [][RB Elijah McGuire, NYJ]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Don't forget about McGuire, who looked like the Jets best back before the bye and could be used even more with a bye to reassess offensive priorities. [][RB Lamar Miller, HOU]( - The return of Keke Coutee will help the Houston running game and the team is still committed to the run. Miller has some flex value against the Titans and could be an RB2 in good matchups going forward. [][RB Rashaad Penny, SEA]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Penny is building momentum in the Seattle running game, but he is probably not going to overtake Chris Carson unless Carson gets hurt again. Carson might be the healthier back right now after Penny tweaked his ankle against Green Bay, but Penny is still an essential handcuff and bench lottery ticket back. [][RB Jalen Richard, OAK]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Richard and the Raiders running game came alive and he should continue to play a big role in the passing game with Raiders receivers dropping like flies. He'll be flexworthy against the Ravens. [][RB Theo Riddick, DET]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Riddick will continue to play a central role in the passing game and could see more touches if Kerryon Johnson's knee injury causes him to miss time. [][RB Jaylen Samuels, PIT]( - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - Samuels is situated as the primary handcuff to James Conner and would inherit a top end situation if Conner goes down. [][RB Rod Smith, DAL]( - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - The Cowboys running game is clicking, and Smith is a capable three-down backup, so he's worth stashing for the playoffs. [][RB Jordan Wilkins, IND]( - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Wilkins is running well and could be the choice over Nyheim Hines if Marlon Mack goes down again. --------------------------------------------------------------- Running Back Downgrade [][RB Tevin Coleman, ATL]( - Coleman was far from a bust in Week 11, and he has some favorable matchups in the fantasy playoffs, but the Falcons offense probably can't support more than flex value from him right now. [][RB Alex Collins, BAL]( - Collins was supplanted by Gus Edwards and probably is only an injury handcuff at this point. He isn't going to get the anticipated Lamar Jackson bump after all. [][RB Dalvin Cook, MIN]( - Cook run game struggles were expected vs. the Bears, but he was barely used as a receiver and never got in a groove. He is still worth an RB2 start against the Packers, but the ceiling games seem out of reach right now. [][RB Mike Davis, SEA]( - Davis is probably not the primary handcuff to Chris Carson now, but he does still have a role in this offense and it's not hard to imagine both backs ahead of him missing time before the season is over. He's still a hold in very deep leagues. [][RB Derrick Henry, TEN]( - Henry could get more volume with Marcus Mariota hurt again, but it is not valuable volume and this offense is going to have trouble scoring. He's just desperation depth right now. [][RB Kerryon Johnson, DET]( - Johnson was running very well against the Panthers, but left with a knee injury that could sideline him for Thanksgiving if not longer. [][RB Dion Lewis, TEN]( - He might get more short passes from a limited passing game led by Blaine Gabbert, but the Titans offense is where fantasy values go to die with an injured Marcus Mariota. [][RB Doug Martin, OAK]( - Martin is still running well, but if he's giving up touches to two running backs on a losing team, he's not worth a roster spot. [][RB Joe Mixon, CIN]( - Mixon would have been a fantasy waste without a short score against the Ravens. The Bengals offense isn't going to create good opportunities for him until AJ Green is back. --------------------------------------------------------------- Running Back Holding steady [][RB James Conner, PIT]( - Conner had a terrible game script, tough matchup, and dropped the game-winning score. Things should get better against the Broncos this week. [][RB Nyheim Hines, IND]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Hines had a rough Week 11 with a drop and fumble, but he's still a second-tier bench lottery ticket stash for the playoffs. [][RB Latavius Murray, MIN]( - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - The Vikings running game stalled out at Chicago, but Murray has shown enough and Dalvin Cook has missed enough time this year to make him a preferred handcuff for playoff benches. [][RB Ito Smith, ATL]( - (waiver wire: 7-15%) - Smith offers a combination of emergency flex depth and Tevin Coleman injury upside as a playoff bench stash. [][RB Jamaal Williams, GB]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Williams is the injury handcuff to Aaron Jones and worth stashing in longer bench leagues for the playoffs. --------------------------------------------------------------- Wide Receiver Upgrade [][WR Davante Adams, GB]( - Aaron Rodgers only has eyes for Adams. He might be the #1 wide receiver for the stretch run. [][WR Marcell Ateman, OAK]( - (waiver wire: 1%) - Ateman is actually the Raiders #1 outside receiver after injuries and a trade has cost them their top four receivers. He's a desperation play going forward. [][WR Doug {NAME}, SEA]( - {NAME} looked like his old self and could have had two touchdowns if Russell Wilson hadn't missed him when he was wide open in the end zone in the win over the Packers. He's back to being a safe WR3/Flex. [][WR Keke Coutee, HOU]( - (waiver wire: 25-50%) - Coutee is back and healthy, even showing off some speed in the win over Washington. His target share is going to remain strong, giving him a high floor as a WR3/Flex. [][WR Stefon Diggs, MIN]( - Diggs is clearly healthy coming out of the bye and dominated targets in the loss to the Bears. He'll have an easier matchup this week against the Packers and is gaining steam heading down the stretch. [][WR Josh Doctson, WAS]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Doctson was heavily targeted by Colt McCoy when the backup came in, which could bode well for his prospects as a bench depth receiver for the playoffs. [][WR Bruce Ellington, DET]( - (waiver wire: 1%) - Ellington is filling the gap left by Golden Tate in the short passing game and could have end of the bench PPR value down the stretch if he can stay healthy. [][WR Mike Evans, TB]( - Evans once again got a boost from a quarterback change, this time going back to Jameis Winston. He'll be a WR1 heading into an intriguing matchup with Richard Sherman and the 49ers. [][WR Taylor Gabriel, CHI]( - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - Gabriel's ups and downs have been tough on the stomach, but he has a refined skillset and coaches that are going to use him despite being in a stacked offense. He'll remain a high ceiling WR3/Flex against the Lions on Thanksgiving. [][WR Kenny Golladay, DET]( - Golladay grew up in Week 11 as the Lions #1 receiver with Marvin Jones out. He won multiple contested balls and instilled a ton of confidence in his quarterback to throw him the ball no matter how tight the coverage is. [][WR T.Y. Hilton, IND]( - Hilton is clearly over his hamstring injury and playing like one of the best receivers in the league. He's looking like an elite WR1 heading into a matchup with Miami. [][WR Adam Humphries, TB]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Humphries could see more opportunity with OJ Howard banged up, perhaps enough to merit a WR3/Flex start against the 49ers. [][WR Dontrelle Inman, IND]( - (waiver wire: 3-5%) - Inman appears to be entrenched as the #2 wide receiver for the Colts. He's worth carrying as emergency depth in deeper leagues. [][WR Anthony Miller, CHI]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Miller didn't get a heavy target share in a crowded pass offense, but he did make a highly skilled touchdown catch and carries a boom/bust WR3/Flex rating going into a Thanksgiving game against Detroit. [][WR D.J. Moore, CAR]( - (waiver wire: 50+%) - Moore's speed and quicks created the biggest play of the day and he also had a terrific touchdown snag. It will be difficult for the Panthers to go away from him now. [][WR Curtis Samuel, CAR]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Samuel is developing as a receiver, showing better routes and ball skills than he did last year. Torrey Smith looms and could reduce his role soon, but for now consider Samuel a boom/bust WR3/Flex. [][WR TreQuan Smith, NO]( - (waiver wire: 25-50%) - Smith showed speed, route running, ups, hands, really the whole gamut for wide receiver skills in the win over the Eagles. His floor is a zero, but now we can see the ceiling in clear view again heading into a great Thanksgiving matchup with the Falcons. [][WR Golden Tate, PHI]( - (waiver wire: 25-50%) - Tate was worked into the offense more even though we could barely make out the Eagles passing game in the rough day at New Orleans. He should be a high floor WR3/Flex going forward with a good matchup coming up against the Giants. --------------------------------------------------------------- Wide Receiver Downgrade [][WR Nelson Agholor, PHI]( - Agholor sunk with the rest of the Eagles offense in New Orleans. He'll have a better matchup this week against the Giants but is only end of the bench depth in deeper leagues at this point. [][WR John Brown, BAL]( - Brown could get a big play on a Lamar Jackson extended scramble, but it's clear that the deep passing game isn't going to be emphasize as long as Jackson is in. Brown is stranded on our benches for now. [][WR Amari Cooper, DAL]( - Cooper's high floor with the Cowboys dropped a bit despite the great matchup against the Falcons. He might see a lot of Josh Norman on Thanksgiving and is only a WR3/Flex. [][WR Michael Crabtree, BAL]( - Crabtree was barely involved in the passing game with Lamar Jackson in. He's not an essential hold at this point. [][WR Corey Davis, TEN]( - It's impossible to feel good about plugging Davis into our lineups until we see Marcus Mariota look healthy and locked in again. Mariota could play in Week 12 against the Texans, but Davis is better left on our benches. [][WR Maurice Harris, WAS]( - Trey Quinn stole all of Maurice Harris's thunder when he was activated from injured reserve. He can be dropped. [][WR DeSean Jackson, TB]( - Jackson hurt his thumb against the Giants and he might have lost his preferred starting quarterback when Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched. He's only desperation depth right now. [][WR Marvin Jones, DET]( - Jones missed Week 11 and he's off to get a second opinion on his knee. It looks unlikely that we'll see him on Thanksgiving. [][WR Brandon LaFell, OAK]( - LaFell was settling in as the Raiders new #1 receiver and even scored, but left with a torn achilles. His season is over. [][WR Calvin Ridley, ATL]( - Ridley hasn't done enough lately to merit more than a bench depth spot. The Thanksgiving Saints matchup looks good on paper, but they have smothered the last two offense they faced. [][WR Sterling Shepard, NYG]( - Shepard couldn't convert in a good matchup because the Bucs were behind and allowed the Giants to run more. He has a good matchup again this week, but isn't a preferred WR3/Flex because he's cold heading into the matchup. [][WR Adam Thielen, MIN]( - Thielen wasn't the mack daddy of the Vikings pass offense in the Week 11 loss to the Bears. He'll still be a quality WR1 going forward, but he's not THE #1 like he was in the first half of the season. [][WR Demaryius Thomas, HOU]( - Thomas put up a goose egg against Washington because Keke Coutee came back and took a big dent out of targets for the other Houston receivers. We can't trust Thomas until he comes through on our benches, but don't drop him yet. [][WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, GB]( - Valdes-Scantling was an afterthought in the Packers passing in the loss to the Seahawks, even with Jimmy Graham missing a good part of the game. He'll be tough to trust until he has a ceiling game again. [][WR Tyrell Williams, LAC]( - Williams hot streak is over, as a suddenly rejuvenated Antonio Gates had a big day against the Broncos. He's just a desperation play at best heading into a matchup with the Cardinals. --------------------------------------------------------------- Wide Receiver Holding steady [][WR Chris Godwin, TB]( - Godwin was ok despite missing some practices with an ankle injury and might see another target or three in the middle of the field with OJ Howard likely out for Week 12. [][WR A.J. Green, CIN]( - It looks like Green is ahead of the most pessimistic projections for his return and has a shot to play in Week 12 against the Browns. [][WR Alshon Jeffery, PHI]( - Jeffery is past a trio of bad matchups and should be primed for a strong stretch run. [][WR Allen Robinson, CHI]( - Robinson was small in a tough matchup with a healthier Xavier Rhodes, and Thanksgiving brings Darius Slay, but after that his matchups get a lot better. Don't give up on him yet. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tight End Upgrade [][TE Cameron Brate, TB]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Brate should get at least one week as the clear starter with OJ Howard nursing a sprained ankle, and he got his preferred quarterback back this week. [][TE Evan Engram, NYG]( - Engram didn't have a huge game against the Bucs, but it's only because the Giants were allowed to coast with a big lead for a good part of the game. He's back to being an every week TE1 heading into a matchup with Philadelphia. [][TE Antonio Gates, LAC]( - (waiver wire: 5-10%) - Gates turned back the clock against the Broncos and had his biggest game of the year. He could work as a streamer going forward. [][TE Jeff Heuerman, DEN]( - (waiver wire: 1%) - Heuerman sustained a decent target share for the Broncos and remains in play as a low ceiling streamer against the Steelers this week. [][TE Vance McDonald, PIT]( - (waiver wire: 15-30%) - McDonald caught a score for the second straight week and is showing some skill in addition to the ability to run over would-be tacklers. He's a low TE1 heading to Denver. [][TE Jordan Reed, WAS]( - Reed looked like one of Colt McCoy's favorite targets after he entered the game. His arrow is pointing up heading to Dallas on Thanksgiving. He had his highest catch and yardage totals of the year and caught his first score since Week 1. [][TE Jonnu Smith, TEN]( - (waiver wire: 10-20%) - Smith is emerging as a trusted option in a depleted Titans passing game. He's got streamer value going forward. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tight End Downgrade [][TE Trey Burton, CHI]( - Burton is becoming a smaller part of the Bears pass offense with their wide receivers healthy and Adam Shaheen off of injured reserve. He's just a streamer with an arrow pointing down. [][TE Eric Ebron, IND]( - You can tolerate a zero from Ebron when his weekly ceiling is so high, but if he comes up small against the Dolphins in Week 12, it will be difficult to trust him again. He did have a pass attempt in the red zone but overthrew Andrew Luck. [][TE Zach Ertz, PHI]( - Ertz is still an every week must start, but the Saints blotted him out and might have provided a blueprint for taking away Carson Wentz's favorite receiver. [][TE Jimmy Graham, GB]( - Graham broke his thumb at Seattle. He might play through the injury but it's likely to keep him unusable for fantasy. [][TE O.J. Howard, TB]( - Howard is likely to miss at least one game with an ankle injury, and possibly more. [][TE Kyle Rudolph, MIN]( - Rudolph is barely rosterable at this point. The Vikings aren't targeting him as much as he hasn't seen the end zone since Week 3. [][TE Ricky Seals-Jones, ARI]( - Seals-Jones had a good matchup in Week 11 but did little to help fantasy teams. His target share and quarterback play are too inconsistent to consider him as a streamer. Thank you for subscribing to our Footballguys Daily Update Email! Get your 3 Free Downloads [here](=). The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
