[PHI - QB Carson Wentz trending to out for Week 1?]( Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Dave Zangaro Updating an ongoing story, Philadelphia Eagles QB [Carson Wentz]( (knee) said 'it will be close' as to whether he'll be ready for Week 1. 'I obviously would love to be out there,' Wentz said. 'That's been my goal all offseason ever since the injury. It's going to be close. I'm still eyeing that date. At the end of the day, it's not just my decision. There's coaches and doctors that really have the final say. I really like where I'm at and time will tell here.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If it's truly close, Wentz will sit Week 1. The Eagles have one of the best (and highest paid) backups in the league in Nick Foles, and Wentz's long-term outlook is much more important than getting him back on the field as soon as possible. Wentz's fantasy viability early in the season is up in the air, and he should probably be outside of the top 3-4 quarterbacks drafted. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 2. [PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger may be concussed](=) Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB [Ben Roethlisberger]( (head) landed on his head during practice Tuesday, Aug. 14, and is believed to be receiving a concussion evaluation. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] We should see the Steelers bring Roethlisberger back from this injury slowly. Fantasy GMs should not be worried about the veteran quarterback missing the regular season opener. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 3. [DEN - RB Royce Freeman could be primary back soon]( Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman 'will be the primary back before too long,' according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Freeman is one of the few rookie backs who haven't disappointed in some way during camp and the preseason. He should trend up on draft boards with Devontae Booker still looking very ordinary. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 4. [PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery Not A Lock To Be Ready Week 1](=) Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported: "As #Eagles gear up for the season, WR [Alshon Jeffery]( has remained on PUP. Though he's progressing according to plan, sources say the timing of his rotator cuff surgery -- following the Super Bowl win - means there's a chance he may not be ready for the opener. Could stay on PUP." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] If Jeffery were to open the season on PUP, he'd miss the first six weeks. Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice reported today coach Doug Pederson was asked about the report: "You know what, I'm not going to comment on that because we're monitoring his progress, it's day-to-day, we're happy where he's at, and we'll continue to do that," he said. "But I'm not sure where that came from." Stay on this one but it looks like Jeffery is not a lock to be ready for the early part of the season. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 5. [OAK - QB Derek Carr impressing]( Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken Oakland Raiders QB [Derek Carr]( has been vocal, directive and fluent in head coach Jon Gruden's offense so far. The command of the offense Carr has shown is evident. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Good news out of Raiders camp here. Carr's fit with Gruden is something to monitor closely as training camp and the preseason rolls on. He's got the ability to outperform his current ADP of QB19 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 6. [SEA - WR Doug {NAME} remains out indefinitely](=) Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks WR [Doug {NAME}]( (knee) keeps coming to practice and stretching with his teammates before going inside at the start of practice to presumably get treatment. He remains out indefinitely with his left knee ailment. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] {NAME}'s knee issue is a mystery. He might getting anti-inflammatory injections or another treatment, and he might have a cartilage condition. To feel good about playing {NAME} Week 1 against the tough Broncos pass defense, we'll want to see him workout and get back to full practices in September. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 7. [DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott to be used in space]() Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins The Dallas Cowboys want to mix up their usage of RB [Ezekiel Elliott]( in an attempt to spread out defenses. He has been lined up in the slot so he can match up against a linebacker or safety. 'It's going to be big for us in the offense,' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Monday, Aug. 13. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Elliott should have reception totals rivaling LeVeon Bell, Todd Gurley, and David Johnson, but the Cowboys have curiously thrown to him very little for a player of his skill and ability. This year, they have no excuse with the passing game being overhauled after Jason Witten retired and Dez Bryant was released. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 8. [ARI - RB David Johnson likely to play more](=) Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban Arizona Cardinals RB [David Johnson]( was limited to just two snaps in the preseason opener, posting a pair of 14-yard runs. He said earlier in the preseason that he didn't think he needed to play much if at all in the preseason to get ready. His head coach, Steve Wilks, disagrees. 'David didn't play last year,' Wilks said Monday, Aug. 13. 'And you talk about the timing. I think it's important he plays quite a bit. When I say quite a bit, I'm talking my standards.' Wilks clarified and added that his standards do not necessarily mean playing into the second or third quarter, but it would be seeing more than just two offensive snaps. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Getting to see more of Johnson in the preseason will be entertaining, but it would be tragic if he suffered another injury during time that he wouldn't be out there if the coach wasn't pushing for more preseason reps. It does sound like Wilks is aware of this. Johnson looked as good as ever and certainly worth a top five pick in drafts. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 9. [CIN - TE Tyler Eifert will be limited](=) Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell Cincinnati Bengals TE [Tyler Eifert]( (back) will be on a snap count this season. Head coach Marvin Lewis went as far as to say that he hopes Eifert doesn't reach 50 snaps in a game this year. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] That's the plan with a player who has an injury history like Eifert. Talent has never been the question with Eifert, and as long as he's healthy he can be a weapon for the Bengals offense. Fantasy GMs are taking him at TE14 (12.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 10. [NE - WR Phillip Dorsett leaves practice]() Source: MassLive.com - Nick O'Malley New England Patriots WR [Phillip Dorsett]( (undisclosed) left practice early Tuesday, Aug. 14, after slipping. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] He walked off the field under his own power and the issue did not appear to be serious. Dorsett has a chance to carve out a larger role than some think in the Patriots offense. Fantasy GMs are not selecting Dorsett in most 12-team PPR leagues, so keep him on your waiver wire speed dial. If he plays well in the preseason then perhaps taking a flier on him in the late rounds is something you should consider. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 11. [KC - Patrick Mahomes, offense will play half](=) Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and the first-team offense will play the whole first half in Week 2 of the preseason, according to head coach Andy Reid. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Mahomes only played in one game last year for the Chiefs so any added experience is a good thing. The Chiefs are looking forward to him leading the offense this year and Fantasy GMs are excited too. Mahomes is a QB2 with upside being selected at QB16 (11.09) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 12. [GB - WR Geronimo Allison taking hold of No. 3 WR job]( Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Ryan Wood Green Bay Packers WR [Geronimo Allison]( has 'quietly established himself as the team's No. 3 receiver,' according to Ryan Wood of The Green Bay Press-Gazette. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] With a healthy Aaron Rodgers, the Packers passing attack should be more dangerous in 2018. That makes Allison a player Fantasy GMs need to monitor and potentially add to their roster late in the draft. Allison has strong hands and has impressed all offseason as the no3 wideout in Green Bay. He's got a current ADP of WR54 (12.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 13. [NO - WR Cameron Meredith dealing with unknown ailment](=) Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport New Orleans Saints WR [Cameron Meredith]( (undisclosed) has missed the last several days of practice with an undisclosed injury, although there doesn't seem to be any concern the injury is related to his surgically repaired knee, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Meredith posted about obstacles and tests on his twitter account, so this could be more than minor, but it is difficult to know. This certainly makes us less enthusiastic to draft Meredith at ADP and could open a path for rookie Tre'Quan Smith to contribute early. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 14. [SF - WR Marquise Goodwin not slowing down]( Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner San Francisco 49ers WR [Marquise Goodwin]( has continued to establish himself as the team's top receiver and is 'clearly [Jimmy Garoppolo]('s favorite target,' according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The number of reports and sources reinforcing this has become overwhelming. Goodwin should be the first 49ers receiver off of the board and Pierre Garcon's value is much shakier with Kyle Shanahan's offense often favoring the #1 and having trouble creating value from secondary receivers. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 15. [KC - S Eric Berry misses third straight practice]( Source: The Kansas City Star - Brooke Pryor Kansas City Chiefs S Eric Berry (heel) did not participate in practice for the third straight day Tuesday, Aug. 14. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It is not known whether Berry's issue is on the same side (left) as the torn achilles from last year. He was also having problems with his right achilles in camp last year. Ron Parker is gone, so the Chiefs have less depth in the secondary at safety. We'll be watching this. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 16. [MIA - WR DeVante Parker week to week](=) Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport Miami Dolphins WR [DeVante Parker]( (finger) is week to week with a broken middle finger, according to a source. He's expected back for the season opener. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Parker was already having an underwhelming camp. He's only a late round flier at this point, with Kenny Stills on the rise, assuming his ankle is ok. Albert Wilson could end up having value during the season if Parker struggles. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 17. [NYG - RB Saquon Barkley working on the side]() Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is working with a resistance band on the sidelines at practice Tuesday, Aug. 14. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Barkley's hamstring injury sounds minor, but the team will likely err on the cautious side in handling him, which might mean we won't see him again in the preseason. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 18. [NE - WR Eric Decker's hands in question](=) Source: The Providence Journal - Mark Daniels New England Patriots WR [Eric Decker]( dropped the first pass QB [Tom Brady]( threw him last week, dropped two more Sunday, Aug. 12, and three more Monday, Aug. 13. After his drops, Decker appeared to run the wrong route when Brady first targeted him in 11-on-11s. He ended practice with four catches in a row, however. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] There was some hope that Decker could fill the big slot role when he was signed, but it sounds like he's not even a sure thing to make the team right now. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 19. [WAS - CB Orlando Scandrick let go]() Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo Washington Redskins CB Orlando Scandrick was waived Tuesday, Aug. 14. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Quinton Dunbar will start opposite Josh Norman after the team has been pleased with his development and Fabian Moreau in the slot. Washington opens with Arizona, so the test for the new corners won't be too stiff. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 20. [SEA - DE Frank Clark back in full](=) Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks DE Frank Clark (wrist) was able to practice in full for a second straight day Monday, Aug. 13. These have been his first two full practice days since wrist surgery in June. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] The Seahawks defense needs Clark to be a dominant pass rusher with late 2017 breakout candidate Dion Jordan's status up in the air for the beginning of the season and a lot of inexperience on the edge. His IDP value has a large range of outcomes. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 21. [SEA - CB Byron Maxwell sidelined](=) Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks CB Byron Maxwell (hip) missed practice again on Monday, Aug. 13, so CB Tre Flowers stepped in as a starter at right cornerback. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Flowers has been doing well, so this development has actually helped reinforce the Seahawks depth in the secondary as they go through a transition phase. The corners will have an immediate test against the Broncos wide receivers in Week 1. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 22. [SEA - RB Chris Carson works with trainer](=) Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks RB [Chris Carson]( (undisclosed) worked on the side with a training in practice Monday, Aug. 13, running from sideline to sideline on a different field from the team. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Rashaad Penny also left practice early. Neither situation appears to be worrisome, but we'll be monitoring. Mike Davis was surprisingly solid when he got a chance last year and he worked with the first team while Carson was out. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 23. [SEA - TE Nick Vannett still No. 1 in Seattle](=) Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell Seattle Seahawks TE [Nick Vannett]( is pain-free after battling a herniated disk in his low back during his first two seasons. He said Monday, Aug. 13, that this is the best he has felt in years, and that's good news since he is listed as the No. 1 tight end on the team's depth chart. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is using the tight end in its traditional role, so he'll do plenty of run blocking and pass catching. 'In the pass game, you know, there are a lot of plays where we are the No. 1 read. They are really trusting us to make big play, in the pass game, in the run game, pass protection,' Vannett said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ed Dickson should be back soon and rookie blocking specialist Will Dissly will also get a lot of time, so there probably isn't much value to be harvested from the Seahawks tight end position, even if Vannett is ready to contribute. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 24. [SEA - RB Rashaad Penny improving in pass protection]() Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny is getting better with pass protection, according to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who added that 'he's really smart with all of the blitz pickups' and 'sees things really well.' [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This was the biggest weakness in Penny's profile in college. He still had a shaky moment in the preseason opener and will be a work in progress, but this is what you wanted to hear if you were worried about Penny's pass blocking deficiency cutting into his playing time. [Back to Top](#top) --------------------------------------------------------------- [] 25. [OAK - Donald Penn restructures contract]( Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken Oakland Raiders OT Donald Penn agreed to restructure his contract Monday, Aug. 13. In exchange for 'new team-friendly parameters,' Penn will receive more guaranteed money over the next two years than he was otherwise set to earn. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] First-round pick Kolton Miller has looked ready to start in camp and the preseason opener, but the other tackle position was very unsettled. Penn being on track to play and now set for the future with the team will firm up the line around one of the best interior offensive line trios in the league.
