URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Tell the EPA to ban the TOXIC, CANCER-CAUSING chemical vinyl chloride! [Sign now!]( If the name vinyl chloride sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because it’s been all over the news. Do you remember the catastrophic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, Friend? After a massive explosion, residents found fish floating lifelessly down streams. People suffered from sore throats and burning eyes. We won’t be able to comprehend the long-term effects for years -- but they’ll be devastating. That train was carrying vinyl chloride, the building block of PVC plastic, and a known human carcinogen, linked to leukemia, liver, brain, and many other types of cancer. This DANGEROUS chemical has no place anywhere near our communities or in our ecosystems. [Please, Friend, will you take just 30 seconds and TELL THE EPA TO BAN VINYL CHLORIDE before it poisons other communities and wildlife? Add your name by 11:59pm TONIGHT!]( [Sign the petition]( What happened in East Palestine was a tragedy -- and it was preventable. We can STOP more disasters from happening. We can STOP vinyl chloride from poisoning communities and causing cancer in children, seniors, and other vulnerable populations. But we NEED YOUR HELP to do it, Friend. The EPA has the power to BAN vinyl chloride. Doing so would protect our communities and the planet from this toxic chemical. [But we need 7,347 more signatures to reach our goal and send a POWERFUL message to the EPA. Please take immediate action and help BAN vinyl chloride before it does any more damage!]( [Sign the petition]( Standing with you, Marcie Keever Oceans and vessels program director, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us](foe.org/about-us/contact/) Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2021, Friends of the Earth.
