Gatorade used a phrase that sold more Gatorade than anything else. "Be Like Mike." They were of course referring to Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan was an icon amongst icons. Part of that was because he was the greatest basketball player of all time. And part of it was because of an idea his agent had… His agent’s name was David Falk. David worked for Donald Dell who was a former tennis player. Because of that, Donald handled their pro tennis players and let David handle the NBA guys. When David started representing MJ he was asked by a sponsor (or someone who I can’t remember) "You’re trying to market him like a tennis player. What the hell are you doing?" He said "I am marketing him like a tennis player, that’s the whole point." (That’s the sentence I was talking about in yesterday’s email btw. It’s also from memory so it may be a bit wrong haha. But you get the point.) See, tennis players had all these brand deals of their own. Whereas basketball players normally had licensing deals through their team. Instead of doing what everyone else was doing. David got the rights to MJ’s image. If it weren’t for that, MJ would not be a billionaire today. He also did something incredibly unique with Michael’s Air Jordan deal. They negotiated a contract that had an upfront fee PLUS percentage of revenue. It was the first shoe deal of its kind. And it ended up being one of the most profitable in history. (Nike’s goal was to sell $3,000,000 in 3 years. Instead they sold $126,000,000 in one year. And Michael got a cut of that.) That was part of Mike’s secret. He (well, his agent) negotiated deals that allowed him to win when his deals won. This is pretty much exactly how I made my money as a freelancer. It’s how I still make money on my side projects and businesses. And it’s a HUGE part of I teach in 90 Days to Freedom. (Btw, if you're thinking about buying 90 Days to Freedom right now...just wait 8 days until my birthday.) One of the secrets to wealth is to set up deals where you win when the person you’re working with wins. So there’s something Michael and I have in common. The way we do deals. (I know you probably thought it was that stick my tongue out when I write, like he does when he dunks. But that ain’t it.) The difference between writers, freelancers, and consultants who make a LOT of money...or just a bit of money is often how they set up deals. Win win win situations are the ideal deal. (I'm saying deal a lot, deal with it.) You want to win. You want YOUR client to win. And you want THEIR customers to win. That's how you get paid big. And it's how you get paid over and over again. P.S. There are three ways you can work with me directly whenever you want… 1. You can hire me as a consultant for your company where I do a weekly call with you or your team. This includes some writing and split testing done for you. It’s $25,000 per month and I can only take on 2 clients at a time. I currently have one open spot. Reply to this email if you’re interested. 2. You can do a consulting day with me in Boise, ID. It’s $10,000 for the day. Or I will fly to you for $18,000 plus first class flights each way. Reply to this email if you’re interested. 3. You can hire me for $2,000 an hour for quick "one-off" consults. Reply if you're interested.
