Publishing a high-traffic website requires great content that both visitors and Google love. It's a balancing act. Google is a computer and people are, well they're people. You need to learn how to serve both with your content. There's no point in ignoring Google unless you don't want anyone reading your articles/blog. When it comes to writing for both Google and people, I've nailed it. Yes, I still write some content for some sites. I enjoy writing. I've probably personally written over 5 million words of content. I've ranked a LOT of articles in Google over the years that readers love. I've also published content that doesn't rank in Google. So I know the difference and what's required. I'm also big on efficiency and simplicity. As a result, I've distilled the writing process into two simple steps. Step 1: Write for readers Once you have your keyword topic, write the very best article you can that your visitors will love. Spare no detail. Make it fun to read as well. Try not to be so serious. Inject a little levity in your content. Start with an engaging intro that gets attention. I find personal stories or anecdotes work great. The meat of your article should cover the topic thoroughly. Break it up with short paragraphs and plenty of headings. Most people scan most of the article. Make it scannable or they'll leave. At this stage only write for your readers. Ignore Google except for the title. The title should include your keyword. Step 2: Content Optimization Once your masterpiece is done, it's time to tweak it for Google. As you'll see from my example below, while writing naturally for an audience is good for readers, it isn't always all that is necessary for peak Google performance. Step 2 goes relatively fast. It's the content analysis stage. Fortunately, there are two brilliant tools for this that pretty much does it for you. Those tools are [SurferSEO]( and [MarketMuse](=). I did a huge comparison article and video of these two content optimization software platforms [here](=). Here's how SurferSEO works. In your account, enter your keyword in the field and then click "Content Editor" ¢Â€Â‹ Next, load in your content. SurferSEO will analyze your content and provide a score out of 100. It will also provide a list of keywords/phrases to add to your article. Here's what it looks like: ¢Â€Â‹ As you can see from my example above, the article as written is lacking somewhat. It's not bad out of the gates but it needs a bit of work. This is your opportunity to produce the MOST thorough article that's also written in a way that readers will enjoy (because you wrote for the reader first). Yes, you may have to add more paragraphs. It's worth it. You've put this much effort into your article so far, you might as well go all out. Give your article the best chance possible to rank. I'd rather publish one article that gets traffic than ten articles that get no traffic. Can you train writers to use SurferSEO? MarketMuse? You bet. I do. I have all writers run their content through SurferSEO or MarketMuse and tweak them until it's a good score. Not only is this good for new content but it's also a good way to improve older content I've tried many content analysis tools. There are definitely others that are good but for the money SurferSEO or MarketMuse are a good deal (based on monthly cost and the number of such reports you get each month). => [Try SurferSEO here](. => [Try MarketMuse here](=) [Read my comparison here](=). Where do I get my content? Back in the day I wrote it all myself but as my revenue grew, I was able to pay for more and more content. These days I pay for most content. I currently use three main sources: - [WriterAccess](=) ($50 credit toward content); - [Passion Posts](=) (Save 10% with coupon BWMZ0ZXDWK at checkout) - [Content Refined]( (special Fat Stacks discount). WriterAccess is a large agency that connects you with writers... thousands of them. Over time I strongly encourage you to build up what's called a love list of your favorite writers. This will improve quality consistency. Passion Posts takes a while to deliver content but the quality is unreal. I suggest asking about expected turn-around times for your niche before placing an order. Content Refined is a writing service for those of you who prefer to simply hand off all of the content production to someone else. They do keyword research, write the content and publish it for you. I use WriterAccess more but for some content series, I turn to Content Refined to handle the entire thing.
