Implementing laws saves lives. [–]( Hi– After the tragic shooting in Buffalo in 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul issued an executive order. The order significantly strengthened our existing extreme risk protection order (ERPO) laws by requiring action by law enforcement in certain circumstances. The legislature later wrote that change into the law and further expanded it by allowing certain mental health professionals to seek these lifesaving orders. Since then, New York's ERPO law has been used thousands of times to remove firearms from all kinds of dangerous situations, including potential suicides, school shootings, and familial homicide. The impact of this order has been huge. In 2023, 9,353 ERPOs were issued in New York, compared to only 529 in 2021. This is a step in the right direction, and it is thanks to your determination that such steps continue to be made. [So, sign the pledge today, to continue the steps taken toward a safer New York in 2024.]( [SIGN THE PLEDGE TODAY]( The fight does not end here. ERPOs are effective short-term measures to avert immediate danger, but they're just one of the many proven strategies we need to put an end to gun violence in New York. We don't just need to pass comprehensive legislation, we need to make sure our laws—like ERPO—are fully and fairly utilized, and we need to invest in and support the communities most impacted by gun violence, both here and nationwide, and to do that, we need your support. [Sign the pledge today to end gun violence in New York in 2024.]( Thank you so much for helping to push through the changes that have made New York a national leader in the fight to end gun violence. We are grateful for your ongoing support and hope we continue to build on the lifesaving work we've done together. New York Advocacy Team Everytown for Gun Safety [P.S.
