These tragedies demand a response. Help us fight back for wildlife by lending your support! ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [North Atlantic right whale entangled in line © NOAA NMFS Northeast Regional Office News 060408 (CC BY 2.0 DEED)/Flickr]( Defender, Just days ago, a young right whale was found dead on a beach in Martha’s Vineyard. Fishing ropes wrapped around her body, cutting into her flesh as she grew and finally killing her. It’s how many of these endangered whales are dying: They get caught up in fishing ropes or nets, suffer painful injuries and often die slowly from starvation or infection. Human activity is maiming and killing many of these whales before their first birthday. [These deaths must end. We’re fighting to strengthen vital protections to save endangered right whales – you can help us succeed by pitching in right now!]( Defenders is calling for our government to help save these whales by finalizing a rule to require vessels to slow down where mother whales and calves swim, and we’re fighting the deadly threat of fishing gear entanglements. You can join us in our all-out effort to defend right whales and other animals from extinction by making your urgent gift today – your compassion will save lives! [YES, I’LL PITCH IN TO SAVE WHALES]( With your help, we still have a chance to protect vulnerable whales. Thank you for not turning away from the animals who need us.
