Friend, Republicans are blatantly manipulating voting maps, and it's undermining our democracy. [Sign the petition to Congress: Stop republican gerrymandering—our democracy depends on It!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Republicans are not just bending the rules; they're rewriting them. A U.S. Supreme Court ruling condemned a GOP-drawn district map that failed to represent Black voters. Despite orders to rectify this, they completely [ignored]( the order–and Black voters in Alabama. Congress has attempted to tackle this issue with bills like the For the People Act and the Freedom to Vote Act―but both times Republicans filibustered the bills and stopped them in their tracks. We can't let them rig the system any longer. [Sign the petition and demand Congress ban partisan gerrymandering!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Romario, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier urging action against Republican gerrymandering tactics: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, partisan gerrymandering is as un-democratic as it gets–drawing a voting map that helps a political party illegally–and Republicans have been shamelessly pursuing it in recent years. [Sign the petition: Stop Republican gerrymandering.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a panel’s finding that the congressional district map drawn by the GOP majority–which had one majority-Black district out of seven in a state where 27% of residents are Black–likely violated the U.S. Voting Rights Act. They were instructed to create a second majority-Black district. But they didn’t–purposefully–and just this past week they left the latest panel of [federal judges]( reviewing the map “deeply troubled.” They “did not even nurture the ambition” to fix the original map, which screwed over Black voters. One of the worst examples in the country is in Wisconsin. During the state’s 2011 redistricting, Republicans controlled the state legislature and governor's office, where they created legislative maps that were the most skewed toward Republicans in the country. Republican gerrymandering is so aggressive there that it is practically impossible for Democrats to gain control of the state legislature. The state’s map is currently being [heard]( and reviewed by the state’s Supreme Court. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled North Carolina could continue to aggressively gerrymander their maps, [overturning]( its own past ruling that said partisan gerrymandering is illegal. Now, gerrymandered district maps could lead to ousting a Democratic state legislator who is [fighting]( to end gerrymandering. [Sign the petition: Stop Republican gerrymandering.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Attempts have been made to crack down on gerrymandered maps in recent years by pushing change in Congress. First with the For the People Act and then in the Freedom to Vote Act―but both times Republicans filibustered the bills and stopped them in their tracks. Gerrymandered maps that allow the loud minority to overrule the majority are detrimental to our democracy. Republicans are rigging legislative districts to choose who gets elected.—It’s time to stop them!
