(I'm a recovering overcomplicater myself) Why frustrating? Because it really is this simple to get a job in copywriting. There are only 7 steps. Here goes... I'm working with a coaching student we'll call "Mike". Mike just got a job in the health copywriting space working for a big company I can't name. 1. The first thing we did was establish that Mike was interested in health copywriting and willing to give it a shot. This is a bigger step than you might realize. 2. Next, we started studying health copy emails. Mike signed up for health mailing lists. Together we figured out the hooks and the big benefits being promised and how they related to what was being sold. We mapped the structures of the emails and then Mike did some hand copying to drill it in. 3. Then we picked a product from a health company I know is normally looking for copywriters. Mike started coming up with hooks and subject lines for that product. 4. After Mike had written quite a bit, I saw the potential and reached out to the copy chief at said health company. The chief took a look at some example copy and said, "Sweet. Now try writing some subject lines and 3 sentence hooks for this other product we have." 5. Mike put in the work. He wrote more ideas than was asked of him. 6. The copy chief said, "Sweet. Some of these are good. Turn the good ones into full emails." 7. Mike again went above and beyond. He submitted the emails and chief liked a few of them. Mike is now hired as a health copywriter. Easy peasy. If you look closely there are actually only 2 steps. First step: Learn the skill. Second step: Get to know people in the industry. That's really it. If you want to get to know people in the industry there are 2 good options: 1) Go to events &/or "network". 2) Buy people's products & use them. It's like 3rd party networking. Mike paid for coaching. Boom, he had an "in". (Watch out for pyramids here, tho). Anyway, I'll leave it there so we don't overcomplicate things. I'm going to open up Health CopyHour for the first time since mid-2022 on Monday. Health CopyHour covers the first part of the equation: It will help you learn the skill of health copywriting. I hope you have a great weekend! - Derek +++++ Want a copywriting coach? Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
