In Fantasy Football, the idea is that you want to pick players who will score the most points throughout the season. One simple metric that helps you identify players who are likely to score more is opportunity. Opportunity can be quantified fairly easily for most positions. Opportunity is the amount of targets a wide receiver gets, or the number of carries for a running back, or passes a quarter back is likely to throw. You can guesstimate the opportunity for players on a weekly or yearly basis. For example, when you're deciding which wide receiver you might choose, you ideally want one that's going to get a big percentage of the total available targets on his team. It's not perfect, but over the years, # of targets is a good indication of how well a wide receiver will do in Fantasy Football. In other sports, you'll hear stuff like, "shots on goal". The player or team with the most shots on goal typically scores more goals. And if you're still here after that ^^... you've likely guessed where I'm taking this. It's all a numbers game. The copywriter who's pitching more clients, will generally land more clients. The copywriter who's writing more sales letters will generally make more money. Obviously, you don't want to pitch (or write) in a horribly spammy or sloppy way that will damage your reputation. There's a balance you must decipher for yourself. But generally, the most frequent problem you'll see is that freelancers aren't doing enough "sales calls". They give up after one or two client rejections. They don't put themselves out there enough -- one reason being they think they need to ["go pro" too early](. It's more often a matter of low numbers of "sales calls" vs anything else.
