Hey {NAME} -- A few months back I had some routine bloodwork done. The results indicated a little-higher than normal inflammation. Not "I'm dying soon" levels. But like, "you should probably do something about this" levels. I did some googling (always a bad idea) and saw that gluten might be a culprit. So, for the past 4 months I've been one of those super annoying gluten-free people... and goddammit I feel great. I love bread with my entire heart but the way I feel on a gluten-free diet trumps. Fast-forward to yesterday. One of my buddies has been experimenting making his own pizzas. He offered me a vegan slice he'd just baked and said the crust was made with sourdough. Apparently sourdough doesn't have as much gluten in it, so I said, "what the heck", let's see what happens. "A little heroin pizza never hurt anyone." [Note: I know VERY little about gluten in general so please don't yell at me about anything I've written above. All I know is, if I avoid foods with gluten in them, I feel amazing.] A few hours later I came back to the house and my wife immediately said, "Did you get sunburned today?" "Not possible," I said as I looked into the mirror and saw a puffy red mess of a face staring back at me. GLUTEN! For the next couple hours my face was itchy (but my wife still made me watch the kids). And this got me thinking... For years upon years, I've housed bread. Put a loaf in the kitchen, it'll be gone in 48 hours. Tops. I've been drinking hazy IPA's for years. Yeah, I knew that the bread and beer didn't make me feel like my best self... but I didn't know just how much it effected me until I completely cut it out of my diet for 4 months. Which brings me back to the phone. This is kind of a continuation of my thoughts from yesterday. We're all addicted to our phones and media consumption (I'm including myself in this btw) and I don't think people realize it. Yeah, you might go a few hours without your phone, but have you ever gone an entire day without your phone? What would happen if you went a week with no phone? When you came back, like Homer in the Iliad, you'd probably feel just how big an impact the phone has on your mood and productivity. Again, I think everyone is walking around feeling shitty because of their phone addiction and they don't even realize it. I've been walking around feeling terrible because of my gluten addiction (is that a thing?) without really knowing it. Same concept. +++++ As you can tell, phone addiction is a major battle I'm waging in 2022. I want to do more fun things with my family. Earn more in less time. Be happier. And I hypothesize that phone/media addiction is a major limiting factor. More to come on this topic soon. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
