Not your typical FAQ email "Is handwriting sales copy really the best use of my time? Should I really be handwriting copy with coronavirus still messing things up?" I graduated college in 2007. What year came after 2007? 2008. And the 2008 crash. I decided to quit my job at a music publishing company in 2008 and travel the world. My parents were supportive but thought I was absolutely insane. It's funny to think that one day I'll probably be reminding my son about what happened in 2020... and then I'll have to stop and say, "But you know what, it all worked out". And it did work out. I didn't fully discover copywriting until several years later and I wish I had earlier. I could have immediately jumped in and started helping businesses make the cash they desperately needed -- just like they desperately need right now. Flash-foward to 2011. I started a publishing company with a friend. I was starting to understand copy -- and actually I was writing the majority of it for our clients. Then I found out that my business partner was effectively stealing money from our bank account. Over the next several months I had to exit the company and pay back as many of our clients and affiliates as I could. It wiped me out. And it was then, when I was against the ropes, practically broke, that I started hand copying sales letters. It was an escape. But it was moving me forward. It was helping progress my knowledge and skills everyday. Sure, that little bit of time I spent hand copying could have been used in other ways... but it was a small win for me mentally each day. And small wins add up a whole lot faster than you'd think. Especially during difficult times. My confidence started to come back. And not-so-coincidentally, within a few months, I started building my income back up. So is handwriting a waste of time during a crisis situation? Not in my experience. And if you read yesterday's email, not in Dan Ferrari's experience. And here's what Alan Wright wrote in the Facebook group recently: Let's answer some other FAQs about CopyHour. How's [CopyHour]( different from other copywriting courses out there? (Hint: CopyHour is the only copywriting course that cares whether or not you finish the training materials - aka, accountability.) What makes it better? What makes it good enough that billion dollar companies are sending employees through the course? Read below for my take...
But first, this is another Facebook comment I received. And here's an email I received from Colette Kenney: [Make sure you display images to see this...] The reason I share these is to point out the speed & relative ease in which things can come together and to show you that these are regular small business owners and freelancers. I'll tell you about a billion dollar company that sent over some employees in just a second. I also shared these stories because I've added a big bonus course to CopyHour that's all about "getting copywriting clients" for beginners. Read below. ++++++++++ Question #1: Derek, what exactly is CopyHour!? ++++++++++ [You didn't read the sales page]( my friend! But that's okay, I still love you. CopyHour is a very unique, full 12 week training course that will teach you how to write your own winning sales copy quickly & easily. You'll be able to write promotional emails, sales pages, and video scripts with confidence. Salesmanship will practically be implanted in your brain... or at least, that's what other students have told me. Here's technically, how CopyHour works: Right when you join youâll create a login for the CopyHour members area. Youâll have access to ALL the bonus training materials. The course will start on the following Monday when Module 1 will be released. The training modules are released every week. Alongside the training modules, youâll receive 90 days of assignments via email. These assignments include training and example copy. Weâll look at some older sales letters but mostly modern day sales pages, email sequences, and content pages that are converting. CopyHour follows a full SALES MESSAGE STRUCTURE that you can use. Each assignment will show you how the ads and sales messages weâre looking at fit into this structure. Iâll send you an assignment at 6pm-9pm your local time, Sunday-Thursday night. Friday will have a bonus assignment for Saturday. And Saturday nightâs assignment will be to take Sunday completely off. Youâll read the copy, then go to sleep. First thing in the morning, if you can swing it, youâll wake up, read the training lesson, and hand copy the ad or sales letter (most hand copying assignments are short). Then, youâll check the Facebook group, watch a video of me explaining more about the assignment, and discuss the ad with others. ++++++++++ Question #2: So is it mostly just handwriting? ++++++++++ Nope! CopyHour is a full copywriting training course. Again, CopyHour follows a full SALES MESSAGE STRUCTURE that you can use. Each assignment will show you how the ads and sales messages weâre looking at fit into this structure. I break out the most important elements of a sales messages to focus on â Headlines, Leads, Sales Arguments, Offers, and Closes. I also go deep on prospect Awareness Levels and other advanced copywriting strategies and tactics. Using the structures Iâve developed, you really wonât have any excuse for NOT being able to write a successful ad, sales letter, email series, content marketing piece or any other sales message in 3 months time. Simply follow the structure, and youâll be ahead of 95% of people writing copy out there. - Youâll know exactly how to START a sales page, VSL, or homepage.
- What to say in the ad leading to your sales letter.
- What type of headline to write.
- How to structure the âmiddleâ portion of your letter.
- What to include in your offerâ¦
- And how to close the letter with logical and emotional arguments. On top of this structure I also have a FULL RESEARCH PROCESS. Iâll show you, from start to finish, how to gather the information you need to write a persuasive message. ++++++++++ Question #3: Does CopyHour work for beginners? ++++++++++ Yes, this is a great course for people who are "just getting started" with copywriting. I need to brag for a second, forgive me: CopyHour helped probably the 2 most successful current freelance copywriters in the world right at the beginning of their careers. Their names are Dan Ferrari and Ian Stanley. If it worked for those guys when they were just getting started, it'll work for you. CopyHour gives you a great foundation to work off of. There are some advanced elements to the course but I always try to keep it simple and easy to understand. You do not need to be a natural writer. You do not need previous experience. ++++++++++ Question #4: Does CopyHour teach me how to get copywriting clients? ++++++++++
The main focus of CopyHour is on building the skill of writing copy... that's why it works well for both freelancers and business owners. But, I realized very early on that a lot of CopyHour members want training on getting clients... so I've added a bonus program to CopyHour called "The Cartel". The Cartel is training for beginning freelancers and marketing consultants on getting clients. It includes training materials, swipe files & marketing templates for your freelance copywriting business. Some of our success stories include: - Anne â She booked her first job with a personal trainer. It's a 10 month contract and she gets paid at the beginning of each month. You can listen to our interview with her when you join.
- Debra â Her first job was a 6 month, $12,000 contract! Wowza. Debra paid for the equivalent of 240 months of Cartel membership with that job.
- Blake â Blake had literally been studying copywriting for 1 month before he landed his first job⦠and then 2 weeks later he booked his first 4 figure job. This product previously sold for $30/month. You'll get lifetime access for free (no on-going charges) which makes this bonus worth $500. FYI: You'll get IMMEDIATE access to the Cartel when you join.
++++++++++ Question #5: So what that makes CopyHour the best copywriting training course and better than "XYZ's" course?
++++++++++ Handwriting + Curation + Group Accountability + Training Tell me another product out there thatâs making writing sales copy so easy, simple, and clear. You canât. And thatâs why companies are sending their marketing and copywriting team members to CopyHour to get up-to-speed fast. Automattic -- the billion dollar company that started a little thing called "Wordpress" -- sent 3 members of their team through CopyHour. I just want you to imagine for a second what it'll be like to write sales copy that converts. What will that mean for you and your business? That's what I'm ultimately delivering with CopyHour. Join by Sunday in order to get your first assignment in time. - Derek Johanson [Click here to read more & join CopyHour](
