Revi [View online]( [Coach Tony]( Coach Tony [@tonystubblebine]( Throw up into your typewriter every morning. Clean up every noon. ~ Raymond Chandler - - - - - #1. Revision. I’ve mostly switched over to [Obsidian]( as my note-taking app, but I’m not yet a power user. So I’m browsing articles written by people who are much deeper into the Obsidian game. For example, this explanation of [Ellane W](’s [writing template]( for starting any Medium article hits a lot that I like. It makes great use of Obsidian’s template feature, has a checklist manifesto mentality, and then ends with: Good job. Now go back and cut the fluff. Revise, revise, revise. You don’t have to ever produce genius work on your first pass. Just keep revising until it meets your standards. I think this is wildly overlooked — high standards matter more than skill or talent. - - - - - #2. Avoid the Drama Triangle. The drama triangle involves three roles: Victim, Rescuer, and Persecutor, each role represents a common and ineffective response to conflict. Which do you play? I’m most likely to be a rescuer or a persecutor. Healthy or not, I have a really strong pragmatic bent, and these both feel like “fixing” things. This idea comes from Stephen Karpman and I bookmarked it while reading [How to Step Off the Drama Triangle]( by [Jennifer Hoffman, LCSW](. - - - - - #3. My number one productivity “hack.” Prompted by this article, [Stop Perpetuating Your Own Suffering](, by [Morgan Blair](, I asked myself, “What is my dominant narrative?” For a long time, it was that I was lazy. And I’m lucky to have realized that laziness is contextual. I’m lazy about things I don’t care about. So my top productivity hack is to try to work on things that matter. The more it matters, the less lazy I get. The corollary is when I look at unfinished work or work that doesn’t meet my standards, I often forgive myself. That work turned out not to matter as much as I thought. My actual current dominant narrative is almost too complicated to get into. It’s something about not having mainstream taste, which is negative self-talk that comes up anytime I release anything that doesn’t go immediately viral. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
