#1. How I feel about vacation.
Iâm on vacation this week, at a resort in the Caribbean, not planning to do anything other than reading fiction and swimming. But the newsletter will continue each day (all pre-written by me).
When it comes to workaholism, Iâm more in the Tim Ferriss camp than the Elon Musk camp. The vibe of The Four Hour Workweek made a lot of sense to me. Take advantage of productivity tools and techniques to cut way back on the amount that you are required to work. Then work more if you want to (which I often do).
Thereâs a huge privilege to thisâââwhich I keep in mind both in terms of gratitude and responsibility to others. Itâs all about balance. Can we all be our best selves, do good in the world, and delight in life? Yes.
So the newsletter will continue all week and thatâs a validation of the advice I give out. Iâm going to do âbest ofâ formats this week.

#2. My favorite Medium author.
I linked to a lot of Medium authors in the prior 225 issues. Some of them rarely publish. But of the active ones, there is one who was new to me and who taught me the most. Itâs [Scott H. Young](, the author of [Ultralearning](. Iâd recommend following him.

#3. The most cited articles.
Some articles cover fundamental topics and so they come up over and over as supporting citations. The big ones are:
[Jason Shen](âs [guide to deliberate practice](. Itâs so key that you understand and focus on the quality of your work, not just the quantity. (Five citations)
[Mike Sturm](âs [falsification mindset](, because almost everything we talk about in the newsletter is experimental. So you have to be able to form an opinion thatâs strong enough to act on, but then be able to back away from it if you get contradictory information. (Five citations)
[The NY Times book review of Thinking, Fast and Slow](. This book is so fundamental to behavior design because you have to hit your rational and emotional brains. But the actual book is long and dense, so Iâm hopeful that you will read this article instead, which acts as a very good summary. (Seven citations)
My own [interstitial journaling article](. Despite having published more than 400 articles, I donât like to use this newsletter to resurface them. This one article, though, seems to be the exception. (Eight citations)

Aside: Delegation.Â
Itâs important for my own sense of authenticity that I write these newsletters rather than have them ghostwritten. So I never delegate the writing. But as Iâve gotten deeper into this project, I have found supporting parts I can get people to help me with.
The main help is Lelo, who copy edits these overnight in between when I finish and when they publish. If you ever receive one later in the day, itâs because I made a mistake so egregious that it was uncorrectable and had to be sent back to me to fix when I wake up.
For this week, I got the help of a friendly programmer on Upwork. I love this service that lets me post a quick job description and get instant help. So, for $100, I found someone who could write a web scraper on short notice to go through all my past newsletters and make a spreadsheet of everything Iâve ever linked to.
