Two big concepts here. One is to believe in yourself. The other is to stop selling yourself short, looking for quick fixes and immediate gratification. Should I file this under purpose, since following a purpose requires that you think you are capable and that it will be worthwhile? Potential is a constantly moving target. The more we engage in something, the more potential grows. The latest research on the dynamic, nonlinear, and probabilistic nature of human development suggests that it’s best to conceptualize potential as readiness for engagement. This is also consistent with the many cases of people who start out with seemingly insurmountable odds and eventually exceed all expectations. Through the course of long-term engagement in a domain these individuals literally changed their odds, and hence their actual potential. Just in case you’ve been infected by anti-seed oil talk, here is a very comprehensive “this isn’t something to worry about” [summary of the research](: The popular consciousness has accepted many dietary villains over the course of the last half century, ranging from fat, to protein, to salt, to carbohydrates. More often than not, dietary constituents that have fallen under such scrutiny have been exonerated in time, as more and more scientific data is brought to light. I suspect that there is a growing number of people who are now wrongfully demonizing vegetable oils as well. Both skepticism and generally negative attitudes toward these oils appear to have skyrocketed in recent years, and it can be seen seemingly everywhere. File this under “trust your own results.” Unless you can see a clear difference in your own health on versus off of seed oils, then don’t get caught up in any seed oil conspiracy theory. - - - - - #3. How to start writing on Medium. No surprise, I am a huge fan of writing in public. Writing is a prompt for researching a topic and clarifying your thoughts. I am smarter at the end of every piece that I’ve ever written. It can serve as a portfolio for new jobs. Every time I see a senior person start writing in public, I know they are about to make a big job switch. And, writing is a great way to give back by sharing your hard-won lessons. A phrase we often say as the editors of Better Humans is “everyone is an expert in their own experience.” That means you are an expert in a lot of things. So I’m sharing this pep talk for writing because we just published a fantastic guide to writing on Medium. I think it’s the best writing platform, that’s the easiest to use, most connected to new readers, and performs best in Google searches. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
