My pet peeve is seeing tabs or windows for something I’m not currently working on. It’s technically only a very minor distraction, but I just believe so strongly that computers should make single-tasking easier. So lately, I’ve been disciplined at using my keyboard shortcuts to maximize my current window. Or if I’m using two windows at once, I use the keyboard shortcuts to split-screen. On the Mac, I use the [Magnet]( app and the shortcuts are CTRL+OPTION+Left Arrow and CTRL+OPTION+Right Arrow. On Windows, the built-in keyboard shortcuts are Windows+Left Arrow and Windows+Right Arrow. - - - - - Quick update on Pomodoro 1K. It’s “lift 1000 pounds of total weight in between each work block.” I’d started this idea with access to just a 25-pound kettlebell, but now I’m back in the [Better Humans Lab]( where I have access to a lot of weights and… I don’t love it. This lifting is supposed to be a mental break from work, so I don’t think you should complicate it. If you want to try it, just get a single kettlebell, probably in the 15 to 30-pound range, and use it for all the exercises. Or… Andrew Z. writes: I’m doing the pomodoro 1k with my son now and he loves it. He weighs about 25lb now so I do a few sets of 10 reps of squat + press. He cracks up the whole time and such a good break. - - - - - Three reader responses on the best note-taking app right now: Obsidian, Roam, or Mem. One, several people asked why I moved off of Evernote. The answer is not very interesting. I care most about that you don’t move off of Evernote on a mere whim. The most beloved form of procrastination for productivity nuts is to cycle through every productivity tool. But mastery of your tool matters so much more. Don’t give that up without good reasons. Two, Charlie P. wrote in with a recommendation: “[Scrintal]( gets my vote! It’s been insane how quickly and efficiently I write and connected notes having it visually.” This seems to have nice visual mind mapping built in. IMO, mind mapping is something that is either very important to how your brain works or not very important at all. Three, [Buster Benson]( wrote, “I seem to try every note-taking app ever made but [@obsdmd]( does seem to be sticking for me more than any of the others. I’m using it for collecting notes on an as-yet-undefined second book, and I think I love it more than the others because it’s so fast.” - - - - - Are you in the greater NYC area and want to meet in person? I’m planning to do the [Great Saunter]( this year (May 7). It’s a 32-mile walk around the perimeter of Manhattan. It’s about 12 hours of walking and so having interesting people to talk to is basically a requirement. Put it on your calendar and let me know. (Also, I love NYC and this is a great way to see the city.) And although walking may not sound particularly athletic, I assure you training and preparation is very important. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
