But the point is not to do one thing. The point is to master the habit of showing up. The truth is, a habit must be established before it can be improved. If you can’t learn the basic skill of showing up, then you have little hope of mastering the finer details. Instead of trying to engineer a perfect habit from the start, do the easy thing on a more consistent basis. You have to standardize before you can optimize.” That’s from [Atomic Habits]( and was in James Clear’s newsletter this week. Consistency should be one of everyone’s main ambitions. _ Mindsets worth adopting. These mindsets include caring (over control), abundance (over scarcity), wellbeing (over welfare), productive (over defensive), interconnectedness (over self-oriented), collective (individual), growth (over fixed), and reflection (over action). [[Source](] And here’s how to change a mindset: The most effective mindset interventions have three parts: 1) learning a new point of view, 2) doing an exercise that encourages you to adopt and apply the new mindset, and 3) providing an opportunity to share the idea with others. [Source: [The Upside of Stress](, Kelly McGonigal] Apps for single-tasking. In response to me saying I didn’t have the right tool to truly single-task at work: I think the app that you might want to check out is called [Undistracted](. Basically, it puts whatever app you are working in in the forefront and dims everything else 100%, 80%, whatever opacity you want and whatever color you determine. This app reminds me of another app that I use called [Magnet](, which helps me position my windows. The reason neither is perfect for me is because there’s very little work I do that doesn’t require at least two windows open simultaneously. Dog news. Showing the “right” emotions to other people is a cause of work stress, so I am sorry to tell you, but you should know that dogs, horses, and goats have all been proven to be able to read your facial expressions. And they prefer it when you look happy. [[Source](] _ Our next training to become a Certified Habit Coach starts this coming Monday.
