The first two are about the myth of perfect people. I think heroes can be important symbols, but that we also need to hold the duality that reality is very different. You know you have that wrong when you find yourself hoping to be a perfect person. Personally, I just want to be great at a few things so that I can have a positive impact on the world. I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about my flaws unless one is actively preventing me from getting something important done. ___ [Rob Brydon’s imitation of Michael Caine talking about the mundanity of life](. There’s a trap in our hero-worshiping culture to think of successful people as completely different than us. But they are more likely to be mostly normal people, just with a small handful of polished skills. For aspirational people, this should feel like hope. Being great doesn’t mean changing everything about yourself, it just means finding one meaningful thing to be great at. ___ This “[body builder’s during their competitive years versus after](” video is alarming. But I think it highlights again how we are shown a fantasy of greatness and I’d like to find things for this newsletter that are less fleeting. ___ Filed under healthspan: keeping some ballistic athleticism is important. I let myself get quite weak in this area in my 30s and it’s been a pain to get it back. This [dot drill]( is a good starting point. ___ If you haven’t gotten COVID, [is this how you feel?]( Is this how it feels to [try to follow COVID rules](? ___ An interesting [eye technique to reduce stress](. Are you stressed right now? Try this and tell me if it works. ___ A good friend sent [this to me as an example of a checklist manifesto life](. It’s based around a lame gender role joke, but if you can get past that it’s an interesting conceptualization. ___ A reminder that I love to get responses. Send me a note — could be about anything.
