Although somehow the online version was correct. Consider it my newsletter learning curve. So I’m going to repost the correct Day Four in the sequence. Before doing these exercises you should have done at least the first two in the sequence: [pick a habit to break]( and then a [pick a replacement habit](. — 💪💪💪 Day four of a twenty day sequence to break a bad habit. 💪💪💪 This exercise is to sharpen your replacement habit with Cue->Routine->Result. This is the key to making sure your replacement habit takes hold. This Cue/Routine/Result model comes from the [habit coaches at Coach.me]( and [you can read the much longer explanation of it here](. The Cue is what used to prompt your old habit and now should be prompting your new Replacement habit. Most people find that there are multiple cues for a “bad habit.” In that case, you technically have multiple Replacement Habits to work on. That’s normal. For example, I’m working on a bed time habit and my cue and routine are slightly different depending on where I sleep: at home, traveling, in an RV. Your Routine is what you do instead. Is should be the same thing every time. The Result is whether this replacement habit is getting you what you want. People normally think there needs to be a reward here. That’s true. But, we found that most people are also judging the outcome of their new habits. The word Result captures both: rewarding and a desirable outcome. Don’t be shy about sharing your sharpened Replacement Habits with me. — 💪💪💪 Day five of a twenty day sequence to break a bad habit. 💪💪💪 Did you successfully do your replacement habit instead of your bad habit today? This is an accountability exercise. Normally I do this within a coaching group where we hold each other accountable. But for today, I can fill in as your accountability buddy. Just reply yes if you did it. Here’s a weak spot in this newsletter and our publishing on medium. All they give you is knowledge, a steady stream of tips and tricks and tutorials. And a trap that lots of people fall into is thinking that the thing holding them back is lack of knowledge. It’s not. The thing holding you back is lack of action. Knowledge can make action easier and more effective. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to do the work. Some people can hold themselves accountable to take those actions. Other people ask a friend. A lot of people hire coaches. Coaching is very much an action oriented business. Coaches do have a lot of knowledge and you can pull excellent advice out of them.
