As a child, I faced my share of challenges and struggles. My life could have gone a very different way. But I was lucky. I had a mom who believed in me before I believed in myself. She pushed me to value education and see the incredible possibilities of this world. With her support, I’ve defied the odds to become a U.S. Army officer who served in combat in Afghanistan, a Rhodes Scholar, a small-business owner, a leader at one of the nation’s largest poverty-fighting organizations, and now, Maryland’s Democratic nominee for Governor. Chris and I are both working to flip our competitive gubernatorial seats from red to blue this November, and we’re both running against far-right extremists who threaten to drag our states backward. My opponent, Dan Cox, has advocated for overturning the 2020 presidential election results, supports a complete ban on abortion, and spends his time traveling to out-of-state Trump rallies instead of prioritizing the people of Maryland.
