The most difficult decision

[I want to share with you... ] {NAME}, I want to share with you that after deep reflection and talking with my family, I will not be seeking re-election. While this was an extremely difficult decision and it is bittersweet, the time was right to turn the page. It’s been the honor of my life to serve the people of Michigan in elected office for thirty years, and I look forward to completing my fourth and last congressional term this year. As the only Black member representing Michigan in Congress, it’s imperative that we elect new leaders that look like and represent our communities. While I don’t know what’s next for me as I turn this page, I know that the next chapter of my life will be centered around service – as it always has been.
