There’s been a couple of noteworthy retirements in NCAA basketball this year! Coach K was expected…but just recently, and kind of surprisingly, Jay Wright of Villanova announced he was also saying farewell to his coaching career. Whoever takes over for Coach Wright might just feel a little pressure - they’ll have big shoes to fill after Wright’s 21-year tenure as Villanova’s head coach: - 2 National Championships - 18 Tournament Appearances - 520 - 197 record (.725 winning percentage) One thing that Wright will always be known for is his unconventional teaching of the traditional Triple Threat - instead of the Shoot-Pass-Dribble methodology, Wright teaches his players to... “Catch To Shoot!” With this approach, Wright’s players hit the floor with an aggressive mentality and wreak havoc on defenses because they… - Immediately read to shoot. - Know that the most open you will ever be is when you first catch the ball. - Start thinking about your shot before you catch the ball. - Fight the urge to “catch and dribble” or “catch and hold.” (Wright has actually said it takes a lot of repetitions to get them out of those habits, so they spend a lot of time working on pivots.) And many of you might already know this, but way back in 2007, Don Kelbick introduced an almost identical concept in these emails... it’s one of the cornerstones of his [Attack and Counter System]( It is the “Think Shot-Shot-Shot” mentality. The basis of this mindset is not to tell players who are poor shooters to jack it up at the basket. That's not what it is. You have to teach shot selection to your players. But whenever players touch the ball, you want them mentally to be in an aggressive, offensive frame of mind that will allow them to act immediately (think Steph Curry). The [Shot-Shot-Shot mentality]( gets players mentally ready to act immediately without indecision. They know what they can do because they’re positioned for it. If they're not in position for a high-percentage shot, then they don't take it. And the problem with the traditional Triple Threat approach is this: Every time you waste a dribble, every time you hold the ball, you give the on-ball and off-ball defense the chance to get in better defensive position... Additionally, if you’re not a threat to shoot, the help defender can sag off of you to inhibit passes and dribble drives to the basket… you go from triple threat to zero threat. ...And why would you want that? You can use Don’s philosophy to teach that assertive mentality that wins games…and doesn’t cater to the defense! Players participating in this program are: - Learning dynamic footwork skills to create an instant advantage against any defender - Developing an unstoppable “scorer’s” mentality (and the moves to back it up) - Increasing your scoring average and FG % while reducing turnovers - Mastering pro-level dribble attacks that defenders can’t stop (even when they know it’s coming) - Generating easy scoring opportunities in the post, even against bigger players (works for guards, too) - Enhancing confidence and taking decisive action no matter who’s guarding you If you want to load your team with unstoppable offensive weapons with the skills, footwork, and mentality to dominate high-level opponents, this is a program you should definitely consider. [The Attack & Counter Skill Development System]( is currently $50 OFF until Sunday, May 1.  The Best, - Joe Haefner Breakthrough Basketball  This email was sent to {EMAIL} because you indicated that you'd like to receive emails and updates from Breakthrough Basketball on 2016-12-16 05:42:39.
