Hi there, As youth coaches, we have a responsibility… To develop players and teach them what it takes to be successful at higher levels of the sport. Zone defenses are very common at the youth level, often at the expense of teaching solid man-to-man principles. But improving man-to-man defense skills is one of the simplest and surest ways to drastically improve your players. And this gives them the best chance to play at the next level! We’ve written about this for years, and it’s a big reason why we so enthusiastically suggest that every youth coach invest in [Huber’s Man-To-Man Defense]( (which is currently on a 20% Discount). So if you’re coaching players middle school or younger, take a look at the breakdown below to get a better understanding of why this can be such a game-changer for your team this year (and long-term for your players)… Reason #1: Developing athleticism and versatility Man-to-man defense forces players to move around the entire floor. They need to defend on the perimeter and down low in a much more dynamic way than with zone defense. This repetition and muscle training builds coordination, agility, foot speed and athleticism as their bodies develop. Athleticism is one of the pillars of every successful player, and playing man-to-man defense is one of the most game-specific ways to help your players develop. Reason #2: Build higher IQ players Players increase their basketball IQ quickly with man-to-man defense. They must see and navigate the entire floor, which means they’ll see a wide variety of offensive looks. This gives them invaluable experience and develops basketball smarts that will serve them for as long as they play. Reason #3: Play better zone and pressure defense in the future Players who understand and buy into man-to-man principles are significantly more effective when playing a zone or pressure defense. That’s because man-to-man defense is a fundamental skill that helps you no matter what defense you play now or in the future. And one of the best zone defense coaches ever thinks the same thing... Jim Boeheim says that you should master man-to-man principles first. For youth coaches, this takes many years. (We don’t recommend to play zone defense until high school or around age 14). As a coach, your ability to teach solid man-to-man defense presents a huge opportunity to make a long-term impact on your players. If you’d like some help in this department, there is no better resource than [Huber’s Man-To-Man Defense.]( It’s a step-by-step system (youth-friendly) you can follow to build a rock solid team defense that shuts down opponents game after game… And until Sunday, November 10, you can get the full program at a 20% Special Discount. This is our most popular program for coaches. And the reviews from youth coaches in particular are striking. I encourage you to at least read through the product page so you can see how defensive expert Jim Huber thinks about defense (and about getting players’ enthusiastic buy-in).
