We’re running out of time Friend, We need your help advancing legislation in New York State to ensure those impacted by violent crime have the resources to heal, recover, and rebuild. Victims and survivors of gun violence face a long road to recovery — not only physically but also financially and mentally. In New York State, there are funds to help those impacted pay for hospital bills, mental health care, burial expenses, and more. But there are far too many barriers to receiving this much-needed assistance, especially for those in marginalized communities, because they are required to report their harm to law enforcement. [The Fair Access to Victim Compensation Act will remove this burdensome barrier and make it easier for all victims and survivors, especially those who face the brunt of gun violence, to access healing funds. But to make this life-saving bill the law, we must get Gov. Kathy Hochul to act BEFORE the deadline on December 11. Are you with us?]( [URGE GOV. HOCHUL TO ACT ]( Regrettably, there are many reasons why victims and survivors are reluctant to report their harm to law enforcement. These reasons could include fear of retaliation, mistrust in law enforcement, and more. In turn, over 50% of violent victimizations in America go unreported, leaving countless victims and survivors without access to vital financial relief. [That’s why The Fair Access to Victim Compensation Act is so important, friend. It would offer alternative types of evidence beyond a police report to demonstrate the occurrence of a qualifying crime, extend the time restraints on reporting and filing claims, and so much more. So, please, urge Gov. Hochul to make this bill law before it’s too late!]( [URGE GOV.
