Time is running out We need your help advocating for a life-saving solution that will help prevent gun violence BEFORE it happens, friend, and time is not on our side. This bill, A9862A, would ensure the use of merchant category codes (MCCs), a life-saving tool to allow financial institutions to identify and report to law enforcement suspicious purchasing patterns related to firearms, accessories, and ammunition. Allowing financial institutions to use MCCs for gun sellers would make it easier to prevent mass shootings and gun trafficking in New York. [But here’s the thing: New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie needs to hear an outpouring of support from New York residents if we want this bill to advance in the legislature. Are you with us? Please urge him to support this life-saving solution NOW before the TODAY!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( Over the years, credit cards have been used to finance major mass shootings, including the deadliest in modern U.S. history — the shootings at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, and at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, NV. Leading up to the Vegas shooting, the gunman spent more than $90,000 on firearms and related equipment. Had these suspicious purchases been flagged, authorities could have been notified of this alarming pattern and moved to prevent the attack. And that’s why we’re calling on New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to support A9862A. By implementing MCCs for gun sellers in New York, credit card companies can help identify and report to law enforcement suspicious purchasing patterns that may be reflective of gun trafficking or of someone amassing an arsenal. [MCCs are applied to nearly every type of business in New York, but not gun and ammunition sellers. Let’s change that by advocating for this life-saving solution!]( [TAKE ACTION ]( In solidarity, Brady New York   [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( Brady 840 First Street, NE Suite 400 Washington, DC 20002 United States Thank you for supporting Brady and our work to prevent gun violence and save lives.
