Beans, on the other hand, are not. This rent week, we’re going to be making some garlicky, lemony fava beans that’ll get scooped up with pita or naan or whatever bread you have on hand. 3 (Cheaper!) Substitutes for Parmesan Cheese In a perfect world, we’d have a limitless Parm budget. There would simply be no reason to find any substitute for Parmesan cheese, the undisputed heavyweight champion of hard, salty, tangy dairy products. We would drop thousands of dollars on massive wheels of the stuff. We’d stack them up and make houses out of them. Replace the tires on our cars with Parmesan wheels. And yes, cook with them too. But that isn't reality, so we turn to other cheaper, still totally delicious options to get our fix. These are the cheeses that solve our expensive Parm problem.
