[View in browser]( [youtube]( [twitter]( Hey hey. [Chris Sev]( here with a big update newsletter. With the [new baby](, I’ve re-evaluated my priorities. I’ve felt too busy with DigitalOcean, Better Dev, Video Tap, this newsletter, and focusing on [the family](. Time to consolidate. The big updates: - I’ll be closing the Better Dev website. - The courses are still available. Moving to Gumroad. - [VS Code course is now free]( - I will email all users with links to view their courses. Moving forward I will focus on: - Building a new side business - probably [Video Tap]( - Rebranding this newsletter 👉 [The Bored Wizards Newsletter]( ❤️ I’ll be pivoting this newsletter to talk more about building side businesses and making money rather than code. If this isn’t interesting to you, I don’t want to spam you. Here’s the [unsubscribe link](, no hard feelings. Appreciate you to the 🌕 moon for being here. The courses are on Gumroad now I know this is inconvenient to move the courses (again)! Sorry sorry! These courses are on Gumroad and available to grab now. I know a lot of you have been asking about the free [Getting Started w/ JavaScript]( course. The [Productive VS Code]( course is now free and prices dropped on the others. ❓ Why Gumroad? I chose Gumroad because they’re easy to get set up and require no monthly payment. They just [take a fee]( from each course sale. They also allow me to keep my landing pages like [BeginnerTailwind.com]( and [ProductiveVSCode.com]( and embed the Gumroad buttons. Get the courses: - 🖖 [$FREE: Getting Started with JavaScript]( - 🖖 [$FREE: Productive VS Code]( - 👊 $35: [Beginner Tailwind]( (was 79) - 👊 $35: [Beginner React]( (was 45) - 👊 $35: [Make 20 React Apps]( (was 79) If you’ve already purchased the courses, you’ll be getting an email to access them on Gumroad. Side ask, if you liked any of my courses, could you leave a review on Gumroad? Why? Moving on from coding tutorials As I’ve been building out Better Dev, I’ve realized that I’m not interested in managing another content site. I should’ve anticipated this. I’ve created/edited 2,000+ tutorials and videos in my career. ❤️ My heart is in building businesses and solving problems. I want to help YOU build your own side business and make money online. Building side businesses takes a lot more than just code. I want to write about all the things that go into creating a successful business and hopefully this can inspire you to build your own businesses that make side income, become a full-time gig, and maybe even get acquired! 💯 Making side businesses and make money 💯 Making a happy luxury nerd life. 🤦‍♂️ I'm stupid. I shouldn’t have built a course platform. The truth is I should’ve stuck to building out courses on Podia instead of building a whole new site for the courses. My goal was to use SEO to bring in more views/sales but the 100k monthly pageviews that came to the site didn’t convert. I was stuck with maintaining a site that didn’t turn into course sales. 🤦‍♂️ My problem is that I get too excited and then try to execute that same day. (related to the domain buying problem) I need to leave that mentality and ask myself if I have the “appetite” for a project (shoutout to [Shape Up]( for the idea of appetites and projects). Should’ve taken that lesson from Jony Ive/Steve Jobs and [learned to focus]( and say no to things. ❤️ Moving forward, I don’t want 3+ projects. I want 1 main project and I want to write about it. What’s next? 👾 Building a SaaS (probably [Video Tap](). I’ve built content businesses. I want to try my hand at really giving a SaaS a go. I’ve finally found a project I think would be fun. Video Tap will focus on taking video content and repurposing it in many formats like blog posts, Twitter threads, and more. Gonna bridge the gap between video content and written formats. 🧙‍♂️ Rebranding this newsletter to the [Bored Wizards Newsletter]( ([boredwizards.com]() I’ll be writing about all the things that go into making a business. This newsletter is moving to [Substack]( which is a great writing platform that doesn’t charge me to run a newsletter. I’m paying $170/mo to keep this newsletter on MailerLite right now to email all you 40,000 glorious nerds. Why Bored Wizards? Some of you may not know this but I’ve always had a personal LLC that has been a parent company to all my other endeavors. It’s called Bored Wizards, LLC. Why you may ask? - When we are bored, we can be our most creative. - We are all coders which makes us all wizards. We can build anything. ✍️ The new newsletter. Lately I’ve been writing tutorials for the pageviews, but we create our best content when we create just for the sake of creating. That’s what this newsletter will be about. My honest thoughts on the interesting stuff. What I will talk about: - Building a SaaS - Monetizing a project - Getting your first customers - UI/UX - SaaS Metrics - MRR/Churn - SEO + Content Marketing - Any questions you have for me ([submit your question!]() What I won’t talk about: - The latest frameworks - How to center a div (and other specific tutorials) - CSS90, ECMAScript2032 - NFTs (yet) 🖖 Onward! Thank you for joining me on this journey and continuing on to the next one. Let’s build amazing things together. The next newsletter will be issue #1 coming from [Substack](! If you want to get in touch with me ever, my new email is chris.sev@hey.com. No more custom domains. Just straight to my personal [Imbox](. --- Hope you find the time to be bored today.
