Updates from The BELE Network [View this email in your browser]( Dear BELE Partners, The start of a new school year is a time of hope, a chance for students to start fresh and for educators to determine how they will lay the foundation for their studentsâ success in the coming year and beyond. As public schools across the country face real challenges, like historically low test scores and signs of declining mental health among young people, there are also countless bright spots â places where students, educators, families, support organizations, and communities are together forging a path toward more equitable and effective student experiences and outcomes. The Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL)âs new report, â[Education Equity in Action: Bright Spots,]( highlights four initiatives in K-12 education that are showing promising results by focusing on the science of learning and development, centering student experiences, and prioritizing equitable resource allocation. - Kingmakers of Oakland partners with students, educators, schools, and communities to improve learning conditions for young Black male students through culturally relevant curricula, programs outside of classroom settings, and more.
- Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) works with high schools nationwide to identify and enroll low-income students and students of color in rigorous, college- and career-aligned courses, giving them opportunities to build skills for a successful academic and civic life.
- Mineola Public Schools in Nassau County, New York, focuses on how studentsâ brains learn and grow with hard work and an aligned, supportive learning environment.
- Building Assets, Reducing Risks (BARR) partners with school systems across the country to realign existing resources by focusing on building relationships and using data to understand and strengthen studentsâ experiences in school.
As we welcome students back to school, letâs look to and learn from bright spots like these to show whatâs possible when equitable learning environments are prioritized so all students can thrive. In Partnership, Levi Bohanan
