Baseball America Prospect Report -- 5/16/19 , SS, Dodgers. Downs had a four-hit game for high Class

[Feature Image]( Baseball America Prospect Report -- 5/16/19 [SEE ALL PLAYERS]( [Jeter Downs]( SS, Dodgers. Downs had a four-hit game for high Class A Rancho Cucamonga, driving in four runs and scoring three times as well. He was a triple short of the cycle, as the [Dodgers’ No. 13 prospect]( hit a single, double and a three-run bomb in the fifth inning. Downs is starting to heat up after a slow start in April in which he hit just .213/.276/.371 with eight extra-base hits in 89 at-bats. He did manage to string together multi-hit performances in four of his last five games. Downs has always shown an above-average hit tool, so it should come as no surprise that he is beginning to adjust at this level as well. [Matthew Liberatore]( LHP, Rays. Liberatore tossed five scoreless innings in his debut for low Class A Bowling Green. The lefthander allowed four hits and a walk while collecting four strikeouts. The [Rays’ No. 5 prospect]( had six swings and misses while throwing 44 of his 62 pitches for strikes. This was his first start in full season pro ball after being assigned to extended spring training. The lefthander pitched well last season in Rookie ball and will look to build up innings in the lower minors this year. [Andres Gimenez]( SS, Mets. Gimenez collected three hits in five at-bats for Double-A Binghamton. The[Mets’ top prospect]( had two singles and a double while coming around to score twice. It was his third straight multi-hit game after an 0-for-10 stretch. After a pedestrian month of April, Gimenez is starting to get on-base more often. Gimenez played well for Binghamton in just 37 games last season after a promotion and will look to continue making adjustments to pitching in the upper minors. [Bryan Abreu]( RHP, Astros. Abreu tossed five no-hit innings for Double-A Corpus Christi. [Houston’s No. 10 prospect]( had five strike outs while allowing just two walks. In his first three Double-A starts, Abreu had trouble with walks and the long ball which forced him to make his exit after just three innings in each outing. His fastball-curveball combo work out of the bullpen, but Abreu has the opportunity to sharpen up his below-average slider and changeup in an effort to take on a starting role in the future. [Daniel Lynch]( LHP, Royals. Lynch threw seven scoreless innings for high Class A Wilmington. The lefthander was on point, allowing just two hits and striking out nine batters. It was a nice bounceback performance after allowing five runs on 10 hits in his previous performance. The [Royals’ No. 3 prospect]( is starting to have a better feel for the strike zone, as he has allowed just two walks in his last 18 innings pitched. [Gabriel Moreno]( C, Jays. Moreno impressed in his first game for low Class A Lansing, collecting three hits in five at-bats with three RBI. He homered in the first inning and later hit a single and triple, falling just a double short of the cycle. The [Jays’ No. 20 prospect]( has excellent bat control and shows enough power to be a 15-20 home run type of bat. While his catching needs some work, he has an average arm and makes quick transfers on throws to second base. [Will Benson]( LF, Indians. Benson had three hits in five at-bats with three RBIs and three runs scored for low Class A Lake County. [Cleveland’s No. 21 prospec]( had two singles and hit a two-run home run in the second inning. It was his fourth game in a row with at least a hit and his first three-hit performance of the season. He hit a paltry .180/.324/.370 last season in the Midwest League, but did manage to blast 22 home runs. Benson has seven home runs through 117 at-bats thus far and is making more contact than he did last year.
