Last night, it was made clear through a leaked document that reproductive freedom— abortion access— will soon be ripped away from us at the Supreme Court. As an organization, we thought this would happen in June. This was earlier than any of us expected. We are not shocked this happened; we are, however, stunned by the speed at which this has come. As young women, we are processing this morning what it means to lose the right to make decisions about our OWN body in the year 2022. I have clutched my stomach, where a baby would might be one day, so many times since hearing the news last night. The feeling of invasion is so intense already. Anger and deep sadness and horror, sitting inside me like a hot coal. That’s what I feel today. I know some of you feel that too right now. You are not alone. Systems in this country for too long have skewed to favor white, wealthy, heterosexual, cisgender men and this is the result. Older generations failed us. People grew apathetic and fell asleep at the wheel. Women of color were pushed out of the conversation. The list goes on, and here we are: clutching our wombs, our sisters, worried for our neighbors and community members who are going to suffer the most. There is much to process. This is going to move fast, so we must act fast. You must know this: our fight is not over. We will tell you when it’s over. Literally, the women of Barrier To Entry PAC will send you an email and tell you when it’s over. Until that happens— it is not over. For the moment: Abortions are still legal, clinics are still open. Use your body, use your voice, rise up while you can. We are about to see total chaos here for a few days. On social media, on the news, everywhere. Prepare yourself for that before you start your day. It’s going to be a lot but this is so important: log off Instagram and Twitter when it’s time to log off. But do not look away. We have to stay engaged and focused. Keep your head down, be on the lookout for good information about how to be involved, DONATE YOUR MONEY WISELY, and hold onto one another. Friends, get involved, donate, look up your local abortion fund. Formal opinion is just a few weeks away - now is the time to fight. So where does Barrier To Entry PAC come in? We need to elect individuals who are LOUDLY pro-choice, who are not afraid to use the word ABORTION and who can show others that banning abortion will NOT stop abortions form happening. We need to get rid of pro-life Democrats like Henry Cuellar and elect true progressives. We need to support candidates who are on the side of the people, not the patriarchy. This is not only a restriction of women’s rights; it is a threat to ALL people’s health and safety. This is an attack on all people who are not straight, cisgendered white men.
