As progressives, we have no problem calling out Bad Democrats or fighting back against the party establishment. Like, of course structural transformation and evolution is going to be met with some clashing approaches and some resistance -- that's the natural course for any substantially meaningful systemic change. Then, on the other hand, we have the Republican party. A truly volatile self-combustion of extremists and hypocrites alike -- whose last remaining scraps of decency and morals were tossed to the wayside as soon they elected Donald Trump. In hindsight, it's evident that even THEY didn't yet realize the new breed of extremists who would rise as a result of putting such an egomaniacal, narcissistic, racist, misogynistic bigot in the Oval Office. So for FOUR YEARS they sat on the sidelines as Trump made a mockery of our democracy, failed to codemn white supremacy, touted dangerous conspiracy theories, endangered lives during a global pandemic, and abused power for personal gain -- all while regular American people suffered the consequences. Yet White House Republicans were so greedy for power that they did nothing -- with the exception of a few outliers who were subsequently ostracized by the rest of their own party for standing up to Trump. The overwhelming majority of them stood by complictly and enabled it as the GOP morphed into the GQP. And today, here we are. Exactly two years to the day since the domestic terrorist attacks of the January 6th Insurrection. Almost three years after Trump's first impeachment. Here we are on the FOURTH day of voting for a new Speaker of the House, entering the 12TH ROUND OF BALLOTS. Like we said yesterday, they dug their own graves, and now they're burying themselves. We hate to gloat (oops, sorry not sorry), but this is EXACTLY what happens when you give dictators like Trump authority. This is exactly what happens when you give public figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert a platform to spew their radical ideologies. This is exactly what happens when you let injustice happen and don't take action. Right now, while Republicans implode by their own doing, Democrats have an important opportunity to reflect on how we ourselves can be better, stronger, and more united. This is our moment to reassess where our collective values truly lie. The status quo isn't cutting it, so we must ask ourselves: What bold action is the Democratic party taking together to build a more just, equitable society? The clear answer is that the only possible way forward for Democrats to achieve this shared goal is with a new approach, a fresh perspective.
