Weâre counting on 125 new monthly donors to make a gift before midnight. [Unlock $30,000; Protect Threatened Birds; 125 Donors Needed]( The Piping Plover is threatened or endangered throughout its range, but weâve made great strides in bringing this species back from the brink through effective conservation efforts including captive rearing, site monitoring, education, and outreach. In the Great Lakes Region, efforts like these have played a huge part in the growth from less than 15 breeding pairs of Piping Plovers in 1980 to 72 in 2022, and up to 80 in 2023! [Give Monthly]( This work is far from over, though. If weâre going to have the biggest impact possible for birds in need like the Piping Plover, Golden-cheeked Warbler, and Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo, we need you with us. [So, please, can we count on you to be one of 125 bird lovers we need to start a monthly donation and unlock an additional $30,000 for our birds on the brink before midnight?]( [National Audubon Society]( [Help Bring Birds Back From The Brink; Piping Plover.]( Piping Plover. [Challenge Extension: Unlock $30,000; Clock Ticking ]( [Birds are disappearing. Start a monthly gift to help protect them.]( Thereâs no way around it: Our birds are in trouble. Just this year the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declared 10 birds extinct. And unfortunately right now, there are dozens of bird speciesâlike the Golden-cheeked Warbler, Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo, and the Piping Ploverâwho are currently threatened or endangered with extinction. If we don't act to slow climate change, this bird extinction crisis will become much worse in the future. Our research identified nearly 400 North American species at increasing risk of extinction from climate change! [Birds canât ask you for your help, but we can, and thanks to a generous group of donors, weâre extending our Giving Tuesday challenge and looking for 300 new monthly donors over the next two days. Your gift will help unlock an additional $30,000 for birds like the Piping Plover if we can stay on course with 125 new monthly donors before midnightâso please donât delay.]( [Don't let birds disappear; Bird Illistrations. ]( Audubon is working to make a positive impact for the Piping Ploverâand all birds who are on the brink of extinction. Just last year, Great Lakes Piping Plovers had a record-breaking nesting season. We saw 150 chicks make their way into the wildâthis marked the greatest number of chicks fledged since the species joined the Endangered Species list in 1986. This work couldnât happen without your support, and there is still more work to do. Despite the steady increase in pairs since listing, the population is only about halfway to the recovery goal of 150 breeding pairs. But we know we can get there with your help. Birds need you now [Bird Icon.]( Nearly 400 North American bird species are at increasing risk of climate extinction. [Bird Icon.]( The Piping Plover is endangered in 13 states and nearly gone from the Great Lakes. [Bird Icon.]( With 3 degrees of warming, the Piping Plover is at risk of losing 87% of its range. Weâre making strides for the Piping Plover and many of the birds who are on the brink of extinction. Thatâs why weâve extended our Giving Tuesday Challenge to maximize our impact for all our vulnerable birds.
