Your story doesn’t end here ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Your story doesn’t end here ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Hello {NAME}, "Can I really paint like that?" You wouldn’t believe how often I hear people ask that question about learning to paint realistic watercolour. The only questions I hear more often are "mummy, can I have a snack?" and "can the snack be ice cream?" Every week I hear from people who are curious about picking up a paint brush again, wondering "Can I really learn to successfully paint realistic watercolour if I’ve never painted before, or if I’ve never taken an art class, or if I have little free time, or if I’m a caregiver to family members, or if it’s hard to paint because my young children are constantly climbing me like I’m a human tree, or - or- or -" Take a deep breath with me. Making time and space to learn to paint can feel challenging, and even intimidating - especially if you don’t have a clear path to follow, or support. Also? YOU CAN DO THIS. I’m going to repeat that, because it’s really important: YOU CAN DO THIS. You’ve already done much harder things. The only thing you actually need in order to learn how to paint is the desire to paint, paper, a couple of brushes, a few paints, and an internet connection. That’s it! People from all walks of life, all over the world have done this. They’re painting more than they ever have, and are creating gorgeous paintings that they didn’t think they were capable of. Painting is a skill that anyone can learn - you absolutely have what it takes. Something else that surprises new (and returning) painters? Your first paintings tell you nothing about the painter you can become. Some of the most prolific painters in our School community were deeply discouraged by the attempts they had made before they joined. Two things were true about their first paintings: 1. They weren’t the quality they had hoped for 2. They didn’t mean anything about their potential. Let me show you what I mean. I’d like to share Colin’s story with you. He’s a member of my online School. Here he is with some pre-membership pelicans he painted, and a more recent hummingbird: Colin only recently experienced the spark to create: "Honestly, at school I was incompetent at art. In 2018 for the first time ever I took a sketchbook on a holiday and produced this elephant drawing which I was pretty happy with." When Covid arrived, Colin bought some paints and started painting. "The pelicans [first photo] were a copy of a painting on a motel wall. I then tried a few lessons online." But without any guidance, feedback, or structure, he struggled to make progress, improve his skills, and achieve the results he was hoping for. It’s such a shame when this happens. It takes a special effort to make that first step after so long. Sadly, this can knock your confidence, stop you from enjoying painting, and cause your spark to fizzle out. ♨ Has this happened to you? If so, your story doesn’t need to end there. Just like Colin’s didn’t: "Finally I stumbled upon Anna’s school and did the free pear lesson. This gave me the first instructions of a method to paint." After joining the school he’s taken around 10 tutorials and has even progressed to creating a few of his own paintings. Colin’s flying.🦋 "I never expected to reach a level where I would be proud to show anyone my paintings, and now I am able to put my paintings up in my work-place. My friends have been astounded by my progress. I never thought I would be capable of something as detailed as the hummingbird. I would assure anyone who is afraid to start, that anyone can learn the skills with Anna’s teaching and that you don’t need a natural talent to achieve results you will be proud of. The kind feedback from the school is great and encouraging. I never anticipated art would become a hobby for me, and surprised how relaxed it makes me feel." Take a look at these recent paintings of Colin’s (the Robin tutorial and one of his own creations): I think you’ll agree he’s come a really long way! Over the 18 months he’s been a member of my online School, his skills and confidence have grown so much. And so can yours. As Colin attests, "anyone can learn the skills". And you will learn it so much faster if you invest in support to help you get there.
