Hello {NAME}, I hope you've been enjoying summer where you are. We're feeling frazzled ?‍ My

Hello {NAME}, I hope you've been enjoying summer where you are. We're feeling frazzled πŸ˜΅Γ’Β€Β My 3 year old Ben is on week 7 of his nursery's summer holidays (!) and so Phil and I have been trying to entertain him and his little sister Fern. We've had some lovely days in nature (when the weather has permitted): But we've also had lots of rainy days indoors (summer weather has been in short supply) and more than our fair share of summer colds. So despite our best efforts there's been a fair amount of whining too (mainly from me πŸ˜…). What we are craving is... REST. πŸ–Γ―ΒΈΒ A relaxing break in the sun would be ideal, but with travel restrictions what they are, we've decided to pack up and go on a little holiday somewhere local for a week next week. πŸš—πŸ‘¨Γ’Β€ΒπŸ‘©Γ’Β€ΒπŸ‘§Γ’Β€ΒπŸ‘¦πŸ§³πŸ§³πŸ§³πŸ§³πŸŽ’πŸŽ’πŸŽ’πŸ‘œπŸ‘œπŸ‘œ We're hoping a change of scene will do us good. After all, August is made for relaxing. πŸ‘™ I hope you've managed some relaxation this summer. I thought I'd drop you this note to share a great reminder of just how important rest is to our creativity. This Scientific American article '[Why a rested brain is more creative]( summarises research by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang into the importance of rest. 🧠Ҝ¨ As he makes clear, rest doesn't need to mean flopping on a sun lounger. In fact, rest need not be passive: it needs to be restorative. So, if done in a way that feels restorative, resting can actually include exercising, especially [something like walking]( or 'deep play' activities such as drawing or painting, as [described by Churchill during the war]( πŸšΆΓ’Β€ΒΓ’Β™Β€Γ―ΒΈΒπŸ‘©Γ’Β€ΒπŸŽ¨ Just an hour or two with your sketchbook can make a difference. In fact I've been getting into 'nature journaling' this summer in stolen hours around childcare. I can't wait to share more on this once the kids are back at nursery... 🌿 I recently wrote about how I have an [excessive work ethic]( (which I'm working on πŸ˜‚). So, for anyone who similarly finds it hard to prioritise resting, this quote from the article might help: 'Rest is not this optional leftover activity. Work and rest are actually partners. They are like different parts of a wave. You can't have the high without the low. The better you are at resting, the better you will be at working.' I hope this message might spur you on to book off a couple of vacation days and get away somewhere refreshing, or just clear your schedule, and your kitchen table, for a weekend of painting before the month is out. πŸ–ŒΓ―ΒΈΒ You never know what creative ideas might start to flow! 🎨🌈 With love, Anna xox p.s. if you'd like some guidance with your painting, I'm offering 50% off your first month of a monthly membership* to my online School (you can cancel any time).
