How Hairstyles Have Changed]( [From intricate curls piled on top of our heads to long, straight, and ironed - hair styles change every decade or so. Can you tell the decade by the styles below? We bet some of them will confuse you! A brief history of hair during the past 100 years: At the turn of the 20th century, hairstyles began to be more diverse than ever before. Hair was worn fuller and looser and could be long or short. In the 1910s, big bows in the hair also became the rage. By the '20's, the bob, with kiss curls (or spit curls), headbands, and feathers in the hair were added to the mix, as well as marcel waves and snoods. (Anyone have any of their grandmother's snoods?) In the 30's and 40's, many of the previous styles continued - as well as adding long, loose, wavy hair (remember the Veronica Lake look and victory rolls?). All of this - and only half way through the century! Do you remember curling your hair with bobby pins or juice cans? Or beehives, teasing, the wedge, small bows and headbands? Just some of the hairstyles and hair accessories we have all succumbed to!]( [Read more]( Photo Highlights [Al Jolson]( [On Oct 6, 1927 "The Jazz Singer" premiered. Widely considered the first "talkie" (film with sound), it only contained two minutes worth of synchronized talking but that was enough to thrill audiences and sound the death knell for silent movies. This is Al Jolson, the star of the movie.]( [Outlaws of the Old West - The Dalton Gang Coffeyville Kansas]( [On October 5, 1892, the Dalton Gang was in a shoot-out at a bank in Coffeyville, Kansas. Their specialty was robbing banks and trains and they had decided to try a big heist - 2 banks at once. The townspeople fought back and 4 members of the gang were killed - Grat and Bob Dalton, Dick Broadwell and Bill Powers (shown). Emmet Dalton (not shown) was shot 23 times and after being paroled from prison, he became a real estate agent, author and actor in Hollywood. Two members of the gang survived because they were waiting several miles away with fresh horses, but the gang was wiped from existence.]( [Edith Bolling Galt Wilson]( [Do you know who this is? Later in life, 15 yr old Edith Bolling married President Woodrow Wilson and when he had a disabling stroke on Oct 2, 1919, she effectively took over the reins of government. Some historians call her "the first woman to run the government"!]( [Trover family reunion 1922 (1)]( [All we need is love! Sept 30th is National Love People Day. Half of the people at a family reunion almost 100 yrs ago - imagine how many more people there are to love now.]( [John D. Rockefeller]( [On September 29, 1916, John D. Rockefeller became the world's first billionaire (over $23,000,000,000 in 2020 dollars). That's a lot of zeros! :) Here he is in 1915, with his only son John Jr. He was also blessed with 4 daughters.]( [See what's going on]( [#ancientfaces]( [instagram.png]( [facebook.png]( [twitter.png]( [tumblr.png]( [pinterest.png]( [linkedin.png]( Our mailing address is: AncientFaces 65 Washington StSanta Clara, California 95050 [Add us to your address book]( You are receiving this email because you opted to receive select information from AncientFaces.com. © 2020 AncientFaces llc [unsubscribe]( | [update email preferences](
