Star Grace Kelly's first appearance in the film is in this dress, an Edith Head original. Wow! Edith Head was born in 1897 and began her career as a Spanish teacher until she pivoted into costume design. Thank goodness she did, as you can tell she had quite the talent! She worked at Paramount Pictures for 44 years and then Universal Pictures from 1967 until her death in 1981. She won a record eight Academy Awards for Best Costume Design between 1949 - 1973.]( [Uncle Fester with an Umbrella at the Beach]( [The last day of August - Yay! For us, this photo seems to sum up the month - yes, it's summer but carry protection. Who knows what will happen? Fires, floods . . . or a run in with an unknown man who looks like Uncle Fester?]( [The March on Washington 1963]( [On Aug 28th 1963, over half a century ago, Martin Luther King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech at the March on Washington. 200,000+ people marched that day for "Jobs and Freedom". Notice the sign "No U.S. Dough to help Jim Crow Grow"? Jim Crow refers to repressive laws that enforced racial segregation and were used to restrict African American rights. The term originated from 1830s actor Thomas D. Rice who made a name for himself performing as "Jim Crow" - a clumsy & slow witted caricature of a black slave.]( [Russell Crow]( [Russell Crow (shown here with his two dogs) and his older brother Brandt left their home in Arkansas with a jug of whiskey in 1915 and were never seen alive again. Their remains were found scattered around a railroad track. We can only assume that they drank a little heavily and fell asleep on the tracks before being killed by a train.]( [Henry and Fanny Johnson]( [While a bit damaged over the course of the last 120 years, the beauty and dignity still shines. Henry (1843-1916) & Fanny (1848-1928) Johnson from Rhode Island circa 1900. In their lifetimes they witnessed the works of Frederick Douglass & Harriet Tubman, the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil Rights Act of 1866 & 1875, the 15th Amendment, the formation of the NAACP and so much more.]( [View all bios]( [#ancientfaces]( [instagram.png]( [facebook.png]( [twitter.png]( [tumblr.png]( [pinterest.png]( [linkedin.png]( Our mailing address is: AncientFaces 65 Washington StSanta Clara, California 95050 [Add us to your address book]( You are receiving this email because you opted to receive select information from AncientFaces.com. © 2020 AncientFaces llc [unsubscribe]( | [update email preferences](
