open up for this month's industry insights!  Hi, {NAME}, July is coming to an end – time for our monthly round up of the newest happenings in SEO! Let’s dive into the most important updates July has brought us. Google launches new way to optimize video for search Webmasters who publish their videos on their own website instead of YouTube can now markup their videos for the "key moments" rich snippet. This markup, known as SeekToAction, was announced earlier this year and has recently been moved out of beta. SeekToAction allows webmasters to tell Google the URL pattern for skipping to a specific timestamp. This allows Google to identify key moments in the video and link directly to those from the search results. (See image below). Google has also categorized the 5 main causes for drops in search traffic: Technical issues: Errors that can prevent Google from crawling, indexing, or serving your pages to users. Security issues: If your site is affected by a security threat, Google may alert users before they reach your site with warnings or interstitial pages, which may decrease Search traffic. Manual Actions: If your site does not comply with Google's guidelines, some of your pages or the entire site may be omitted from Google Search results through a Manual Action. Algorithmic changes: Google is always improving how it assesses content and updating its algorithm accordingly; core updates and other smaller updates may change how some pages perform in Google Search results. Search interest disruption: Sometimes changes in user behavior will change the demand for certain queries, either as a result of a new trend, or seasonality throughout the year. Learn more: [( Bonus for restaurant owners: Users can now leave your restaurant a more detailed review on Google The additional details a user can now include in a review for a restaurant are: - Price range - Type of meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) - Whether they got take out, delivery or dined in These additional details are available for all restaurants across the US and will be rolling out to other countries soon. This is an important step forward as other industries may also get additional review features in the future. These review features will provide the potential customer with more information to make a detailed decision. Learn more: [( Google shows us why they ranked a specific search result In the screenshot below you can see that Google has included additional information as to why it ranked a specific search result. Google doesn’t tell us which factors it will show, but here are a few factors that have been spotted in the SERPs: - Search terms that appear in the result - Search terms related to your search - Other websites with your search terms link to this result - This result has images related to your search - This result is relevant for searches in [region] Google also provides users with "search tips" to help them narrow their search results in case what they were presented with wasn’t the best match.
