Not only did we have FOUR broad core algorithm updates to keep up with, there were also five smaller updates that affected various ranking systems. Then we dealt with, among many other things: - the absolute explosion in popularity of [ChatGPT]( and generative AI - the E of experience added to EAT - the death of a search engine (RIP Neeva) - the launch of Threads, Meta’s version of Twitter The word of the year was volatility – and it shows in the SERPs. With 2024 off to a fresh and shiny start, here are some predictions from your Loganix SEO team for what this year might bring. 1. SEO for Social Media It’s no secret that younger generations are increasingly using social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram in place of traditional search engines when it comes to discovering the next big thing. So much so, that even [Google execs have commented]( on the trend shift, and how it’s changed their approach to Search. Although hashtags have been around for as long as Instagram has existed, they are no longer the only way to get discovered. Many marketers are starting to give just as much attention to optimizing their social posts as they do to their website and blog content. Our prediction for 2024: we’ve already seen an uptick in SEO-optimized content on Google Maps and across ecommerce retailers like Amazon. SEO mainstays such as metadata and keyword optimization – especially in captions and image descriptions – will more reliably appear across social media platforms to boost post rankings. 2. Learning to Live with AI LLMs are here to stay. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, it’s time that we learned how to get along with our robot friends – and how to best make use of their abilities. With Meta rolling out their [AI chatbot]( (in beta) across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and Open AI partnering with Bing to bring ChatGPT to the masses, the explosive growth of AI isn’t likely to stop anytime soon. Our prediction for 2024: there will be a lot of discourse this year around how to maintain authenticity, trustworthiness and expertise while leveraging the generative capabilities of AI. We’re also expecting to see increased government regulation around the use of AI tools and their output. 3. A Commitment to Experience As AI-generated content becomes more and more prevalent, Google’s ranking algorithm will likely undergo changes to better reward verifiable experience and thought leadership. Demonstrating first-hand experience has become all-important since the [addition of that second E]( which means that assets like case studies and first-person guest posts have become more valuable than ever before. Our prediction for 2024: we’re going to see an increase in the usage of schema markup to convey experience – including ‘SameAs’ schema – by connecting social profiles across the web. Another differentiator will be quality backlinks from sites with similar experience, as these can’t be generated by ChatGPT.
