Hi {NAME}! Copywriting in itself is a broad field to be in. Apart from whether you’re writing long form copy (i.e. sales letters) or short-form copy (e.g. emails, social media posts/captions, etc.)... You also have to take into consideration what market or niche you’re writing for. Coaches and course creators ba ‘yan? Ecommerce? Kung sa ecom naman, which brands do you want to serve? Fitness ba? Health? Beauty? Clothing? Ang daming dapat i-consider, 'di ba? And this could be overwhelming. ‘Yung overwhelmed ka na nga which copywriting resources to consume, ‘tapos stuck ka rin kasi hindi mo alam kung gusto mo bang magsulat ng sales letters or emails… Then, hindi ka rin makapili ng industries you want to serve. But tell you what, {NAME}... It’s OK. :) It’s alright if you haven’t figured it all out. Especially if you have just started your copywriting journey. Even if you’re already a copywriter but are not quite sure if you’re servicing the right clients, that’s fine too. In fact, this is what I suggest you do: Explore more and diversify your portfolio This is in connection with the first two ways on how to consistently learn and master copywriting which we have already discussed in my past emails. The reason I’m suggesting this is because I don’t want you to be tied to doing something without knowing if you can do other things or not. Like I said, malawak ang copywriting. Baka kasi na-influence ka lang ng copywriter na nilu-look up mo… Or baka na-hype ka lang sa income bracket ng copywriters sa network mo… ‘Tapos you got into the same niche they’re in, writing the same type of copy… Pero what if mag-e-excel ka pala sa pagsulat ng sales letters instead of Facebook ads? What if mas mag-e-enjoy ka pala magsulat for coaches pero na-introduce ka sa copywriting through ecom? That would be an untapped potential on your part. Sayang naman. If you’re thinking sayang din sa oras ‘pag mag-try pa ng iba, you couldn’t be more wrong. It wouldn’t be a waste of your time trying out different types of copy and niches kasi by doing this… You’ll realize what you’re really passionate about, and find out alin sa mga na-try mo ‘yung almost effortless on your part na isulat. ‘Di ba mas exciting ‘yung ganun? And when you find it, that’s the time when you’ll be working on something that doesn’t feel like “work” at all. That’s what I want for you, {NAME}. 😊 Another thing is that you’ll have a diversified portfolio when you start exploring and trying out new things. To be honest with you, hindi naman lahat ng businesses eh specific to one type of copy and niche lang ang need… Lalo na kung sa agency na nagse-service to different niches. If you have a diversified portfolio, masho-showcase mo ‘yung versatility mo in copywriting. In short, marami kang bala, and you have a better chance at being chosen kasi you’re a well-rounded copywriter. Again, when you start exploring other types of copy and writing for different niches, you’ll… - Find what you’re really passionate about - Enhance your copywriting skills more - Diversify your portfolio Now, maybe there’s a part of you saying… “Hindi ba dapat mag-specialize para mas malaki ang income kasi mas may focus at expertise?” Not necessarily. If you’re a highly-skilled copywriter na proven na talaga na ‘pag nagsulat ka, kahit ano pa ‘yan, eh magko-convert… Then, yes, specialization is the way to go. Pero kung nandun ka pa sa stage na hindi mo pa alam ‘yung copywriting path mo talaga… Be a generalist. And being so does not mean you’re not getting any expertise… Being a generalist helps you align your values and passions to the specific niche/s you want to be serving... So that you can be at your best writing copy for brands that you believe in as well… I’m not sure if you’ve already experienced this pero mahirap magsulat for a business or product you don’t believe in… Magma-manifest siya sa copy mo… You wouldn’t want that happening. I know probably most of you are into copywriting for the money, and that’s OK… But if you want to stay in the field for the long haul… Do yourself a favor and start finding out as early as now which type of copy you want to write and which niche/s you want to serve. Better do it now than later. Trust me. :) Now, before I end this email, I want to challenge you. What niche are you writing for right now? And what niche have you always been curious about but have never tried writing for? Challenge yourself to write a copy in that niche you’re curious about, and reflect after how it made you feel. Mas mabilis ka bang nakapagsulat? Mas nahirapan ka ba (kasi in-overthink mo)? I want to know your thoughts, {NAME}. Like always, don’t hesitate to reply to this email. Nababasa ko ‘yung replies n’yo kahit hindi ako nakakasagot. I appreciate you. :) Rooting for you, Mark Darwin Balaswit Sent to: {EMAIL} [Unsubscribe]( Top Dog Copywriter, Barangay Commonwealth, 1121 Quezon City, Philippines
