Check out some of the most interesting news items we’ve come across in the world of SEO in September. Let’s Talk TikTok Trends Curious about TikTok and how it could help your business? Or have you been using it for a while but haven’t seen the results you want? There’s hope – the folks at Semrush have put together the [definitive guide to TikTok SEO](. [Tiktok SEO]( Long-tail hashtags, trending sounds, memes (oh the memes!), and engagement are all key to hitting the #ForYou page of your target audience. Considering that Gen Z has been using [TikTok as a search engine]( for some time now, it makes sense to optimize for the social platform and increase the visibility of your content – especially with major holidays coming up in the next few weeks! Google Gets Political With several major elections happening around the world in the next few months, Google has released not one, but THREE separate updates to their Political content policy. In what appears to be an effort to battle misinformation during this year’s election cycle, the policy now includes specific regulations for: - [Chile Election Ads]( (effective Sept 2023) - [India Election Ads]( (effective Oct 2023) The [final policy update]( taking effect in mid-November 2023, is a big one – "[A]ll verified election advertisers in regions where verification is required must prominently disclose when their ads contain synthetic content that inauthentically depicts real or realistic-looking people or events. This disclosure must be clear and conspicuous and must be placed in a location where it is likely to be noticed by users. This policy will apply to image, video, and audio content." AI-assisted edits like red-eye removal, resizing, cropping, and brightening don’t require a disclosure. Have you used AI-generated content in your ad creation process? Bing Says Bye to Disavow In a show of confidence for its AI tool, Bing has [announced]( that it will be retiring its Disavow Links feature and API starting October 2023. Once a tool used to exclude spammy links from being considered for site ranking, Bing has stated that they will rely on AI to assess the relevance and quality of a backlink. [Bing Disvow]( According to Fabrice Canel, Principal Program Manager of Bing Webmaster Tools, their AI "can now differentiate between natural and unnatural links, and [it] can ignore or discount the latter without affecting the former." The search engine claims that the AI will give webmasters back the time spent manually auditing and disavowing bad links – time which they recommend spending on creating high-quality content. And that wraps up our SEO finds for this month! What did you think? Anything we missed?
