Ahrefs updates, Google crawling and more! ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  Hi {NAME}, Hello again and welcome to this month’s edition of our SEO roundup. Let’s dive into the most important updates and news in the world of SEO that June has brought us so far. Ahrefs launches a new search engine called Yep Ahrefs, the powerhouse SEO toolset, announced in 2019 that it had plans to build its very own search engine. Three years – and $60 million later – their search engine is now live. Ahrefs’ search engine is called Yep and is being positioned as a Google competitor. Yep is focused on privacy, and will not collect any personal information or store your search history. Yep also has an interesting revenue sharing plan. The plan is for Yep to share 90% of its advertising revenue with content creators. In a feature on [TechCrunch]( here is what Yep’s team had to say: "Let’s say that the biggest search engine in the world makes $100B a year. Now, imagine if they gave $90B to content creators and publishers. Wikipedia would probably earn a few billion dollars a year from its content. They’d be able to stop asking for donations and start paying the people who polish their articles a decent salary. There would be no more need for paywalls and affiliate links, so publishers who’ve had to resort to chasing traffic with clickbait articles and filling their pages with ads would be able to get back to doing investigative pieces and quality analysis. A citizen journalist uncovering corruption on the side of a full-time job could get compensated without having to spend time trying to monetize content. And the best thing? You don’t have to be an expert to benefit. Let’s say that you love pancakes more than anything else in the world. Now you have an incentive to grow that passion – imagine getting fairly paid to share creative recipes, publish photos of your creations and teach the rest of the world how they, too, can make the fluffiest pancakes ever. Independent creators everywhere will finally be able to flourish." Do you think Yep can compete with Google? Google will now crawl and index the first 15mb of content per page Google has updated their Googlebot help document which can be found here: [( The biggest news is the following change that Google has added: "Googlebot can crawl the first 15MB of content in an HTML file or supported text-based file. After the first 15MB of the file, Googlebot stops crawling and only considers the first 15MB of content for indexing." It has always been a good rule of thumb to keep your webpages light for both the end user and search engines, but now Google has come out with a very clear statement about how much content they will consume. A good way to test this is to use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console and see what parts of the page Google renders and sees within the debugging tool. Google increases review requirement for local search ads In the US, certain businesses may have noticed that their local search ads are disabled. This is a result of a new review requirement by Google. Google now states that starting on June 30, the following types of businesses will need at least 5 reviews in order to run local search ads. Here’s the list: - Real estate agents and brokers - Personal injury lawyers - HVAC - House cleaners - Tree service - Roofing Google Ads Liaison Ginny Marvin stated "More customer reviews help build trust and will mean more opportunities to connect with potential clients."
