Letâs dive into the most important updates February has brought us so far. Emojis! I thought Iâd start this month's insights with a bit of a fun one. Everyone knows, uses and loves emojis. Iâve seen them begin to pop up more often in the SERPs via page titles and meta descriptions, but are they helpful for SEO? Well, [this is what John Mueller had to say]( âYou can definitely use emojis in titles and descriptions on your pages. We donât show all of these in the search results, especially if we think that it kind of disrupts the search results in terms of, it looks misleading perhaps, or those kinds of things. But you can definitely keep them there, itâs not that they cause any problems. I donât think you would have any significant advantage in putting those there, because at most what we try to figure out is what is the equivalent of that emoji and maybe use that word as well, kind of associated with the page.â He continues on: âBut itâs not that you get an advantage for kind of like, oh you have a colorful title kind of thing. So from that point of view, if you like to have these in your titles and descriptions, go for it. If you donât want them there then thatâs fine too. I donât think it kind of hurts or harms SEO or helps SEO in any way.â In short, emojis are allowed, but they will neither harm or help your rankings. And there is a good chance Google may not even display them at all. Google says core web vitals wonât improve indexing In a recent Google Search Central SEO office-hours hangout with John Mueller it was asked if Core Web Vitals can impact site quality and thus affect how many pages on a website get indexed. John Mueller answered: âI donât think so. Itâs really kind of hard to look at this without looking at a specific website. But, essentially, the Core Web Vitals kind of plays into the Page Experience ranking factor â and thatâs more of a ranking factor. Thatâs not a quality factor. And in particular, it doesnât play in with how much we actually crawl and index from the website. In some cases, there is a little bit of a relationship between how fast the page is and how fast we can crawl it, but it doesnât have to be that way. So thatâs something where usually these sides are less connected and not completely tied together.â John continues on and says that Core Web Vitals scores wonât always lead to faster crawling either.
