It’s time for a roundup of the newest happenings in SEO for October. Let’s dive into the most important updates we’ve seen over the past month. Google has published some new updates on best practices for writing page titles Here is what Google says you should do when writing page titles: - Make sure every page on your website has a specified title - Create unique titles for every page - Keep titles concise - Write descriptive titles and avoid vague terms like “home” - Don’t repeat text in titles - Brand your titles when appropriate For more information on page titles check out Google’s new help page here: [( John Mueller discusses if product price is a ranking factor While Google can understand what the price of a product is, they do not use this as a ranking factor despite some thinking that a lower-priced product will rank higher. John Mueller states: “Purely from a web search point of view, no, it’s not the case that we would try to recognize the price on a page and use that as a ranking factor. So it’s not the case that we would say we’ll take the cheaper one and rank that higher. I don’t think that would really make sense.” Hear his full explanation in the video here: [( John Mueller weighs in on if linking out to authoritative sites is good for SEO Many SEOs have the mindset that linking out to an authoritative site is good for SEO, but what does John Mueller have to say? “Obviously, if you have good content within your website and part of that references existing other content then kind of that whole structure that makes a little bit more sense and means that your website overall is a good thing. But just having a link to some authoritative page, that doesn’t change anything from our point of view.” Mueller is clear that from an algorithmic point of view, outbound links don’t do anything for Google, but they are great for user experience! Check out John’s full answer in the video here: [( Google Search Ends Support For Internet Explorer 11 Google Search is officially ending support for Internet Explorer 11. What exactly does this mean? Google will serve a stripped-down version of the search engine that will only return basic results, and none of Google’s new features going forward will be compatible with Internet Explorer. About 1.32% of the market uses Internet Explorer on their desktop and a Google engineer has stated that it is not justifiable to continue developing features for such a small segment of the market.
