Your progress: Beginners [Keep Learning!]( Today I want you to read a short text about music and the seasons to practice your reading skills. You can find definitions of the words in bold under the text. There’s always a song suited to every season. When it’s summer or spring, we normally listen to upbeat happy songs. When it’s autumn or winter, we normally listen to calm relaxing music. Whatever the season, we like to listen to nice catchy songs because they change our mood. No matter how bad, lonely or hard times are, music seems to do magic and helps us think and feel that at the end of the day, there’s always something good we need to be thankful for. Vocabulary suited: an adjective meaning “appropriate” or “compatible with”. For example: I think the other applicant is better suited to the job. season: a noun meaning a period of the year characterized by particular weather conditions. For example: My favourite season is summer. summer: a noun meaning the season where there is a period of hot, usually sunny weather. For example: We always go to the beach in the summer. spring: a noun meaning the season following winter and preceding summer. For example: In spring, the flowers start to bloom. autumn: a noun used in British English which is also known as fall in American English. It is the season between summer and winter. For example: Leaves change colour in autumn. winter: a noun meaning the cold season after autumn. For example: Winter is my worst season. I hate the cold! upbeat: an adjective meaning optimistic and cheerful. For example: She looked upbeat even though she was tired. catchy: an adjective meaning attractive or appealing and easy to remember. For example: Lady Gaga’s songs are always catchy. mood: a noun meaning a state of mind at a certain time. For example: He’s always in a bad mood on Monday mornings. to seem: a verb meaning to appear to be. For example: You seem happy today. And one of the best ways to learn is to practice, right?
