FACT: Five of the most vulnerable Democrats in the country are Democratic scientists we worked tirelessly to elect to office for the first time in 2018. FACT: [If each of you could donate just $5 – yes, just $5! – we could fund an effort to reach hundreds of thousands of voters to DEFEND these five crucial, must-win seats.]( [DEFEND THE HOUSE MAJORITY]( Underwood (IL-14) – Lauren holds the distinction of being the youngest Black woman ever elected to Congress in history. A registered nurse by training who was born with a pre-existing condition, she ran against a Republican in 2018 for a safe GOP seat who lied to her and constituents of the district about whether or not repealing the Affordable Care Act would ax protections for Americans like her. After helping Democrats flip the House in 2018, she was made a top target by Republicans and had one of the closest races in the nation in 2020. So close, in fact, that her Republican opponent originally declared victory and attended orientation for new members of Congress. . Kim Schrier (WA-8) – When Kim Schrier was elected to office for the first time in 2018, she became the only woman physician in the entire U.S. Congress. A career physician and working mom with Type 1 Diabetes, Republicans didn’t believe she would succeed in flipping a district blue that Democrats had never carried in the history of the United States. Then in November 2018, Kim won a resounding victory in Washington’s 8th Congressional district and has been a leading voice when it comes to combatting and slowing the spread of Covid-19 in Congress. Luria (VA-2) – Elaine holds the distinction of being one of the first women in the history of the U.S. military to graduate from a nuclear power program and is also one of the only women in the U.S. Navy to ever spend the majority of her career at sea on combatant ships. In 2018, she successfully flipped Virginia’s 2nd Congressional district blue after it was discovered that Republicans were forging signatures of the dead to prop up their candidate in a disturbing example of election fraud. After redistricting, Elaine’s district is split 50-50 and is considered one of the most competitive races of the 2022 midterm elections. Casten (IL-3) – Out of 535 seats in Congress, only one is held by a climate expert. That seat is held by Sean Casten who ran an unapologetic campaign focused on climate and science that flipped a safe Republican seat blue for the first time in nearly 50 years in 2018. Sean serves on the historic Congressional Committee on the climate crisis and is widely considered one of the leading voices on combating climate change in the country. Similar to Elaine, redistricting has made his district even more conservative and competitive. Houlahan (PA-6) – Chrissy is a former science teacher, Navy Veteran, and industrial engineer who was among the historic class of women who ran for office for the first time and flipped control of Congress in 2018. In Pennsylvania and in many other states, the redistricting process is still underway and Republicans are attempting to advance maps (and voter suppression bills) that target Democratic incumbents like Chrissy who flipped seats blue. [If Lauren, Kim, Elaine, Sean, and Chrissy lose their races we WILL lose control of Congress. So can we count on you to donate $5 (or anything you can) to re-elect these 5 vulnerable Democratic incumbents?]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be processed immediately: [CHIP IN $5 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $25 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $50 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $100 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN $200 IMMEDIATELY »]( [CHIP IN ANOTHER AMOUNT »]( Thank you, 314 Action Fund PAID FOR BY 314 ACTION FUND, 314ACTION.ORG, NOT AUTHORIZED BY ANY CANDIDATE OR ANY CANDIDATE'S COMMITTEE. [Click here to unsubscribe from 314 Action's Email List]( 314 Action is a grassroots community of over 6 million people working to elect Democratic scientists at all levels of government who will use science and facts to address some of our most pressing issues from climate change and gun violence to health care and protecting the environment. To date, we've flipped five U.S. Senate seats from red to blue, including drafting both Mark Kelly and John Hickenlooper to run, helped Democrats flip the House in 2018 by electing eight Democrats in red to blue districts, and secured more than six dozen state legislative victories -- All with an average donation of $18. The best way we can build on the progress we've achieved and empower President Joe Biden's science-first agenda is to defend our razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, which is why we're targeting 68 Senate, House, Gubernatorial and statewide races ahead of 2022. We're creating political consequences for the Republicans who disavow science, deny the reality of climate change, and spread conspiracy theories as a result.
