I own a certain vintage wristwatch that's no longer in production, and for the longest time, I had been looking to fix the strap. After multiple "Oga I no sabi this one," I came across today's subject who fixed it for me. Fascinated by how patiently he worked the watch, I decided I had to interview him. Where did the interview happen? He has this tiny shop at Onipanu market, Lagos, that never stops seeing customers. I had to pause the interview a number of times so he could attend to his customers. What’s your favourite part of his story? His patience. This guy has been working at the same job for the past 9 years. *Laughs in millennial job hopping*. 9 years is a long time 👀. At this point, what do you want most for him? He spends all his time either fixing watches or going home to sleep, so I want him to start his own watch shop and try to have fun. Are there any cool bits that didn’t make the final cut? He mentioned how people come to steal from the shop because of how busy they get. He also talked about his former job selling animals and meat. He seems to have lived a rich life.
